Title: The Good Slytherin

Characters: Adrian Pucey

Word Count: 600

Adrian Pucey was a tall boy with dark hair, brown eyes and a square jaw. He was a talented quidditch player; he never resorted to using dirty tricks like others on his team. Not that it mattered; he was a Slytherin and everyone knew that no wizard or witch from that house had ever turned out good in the end.

Adrian was eleven years old when he first noticed that being a Slytherin was not a good thing. For some reason whenever Marcus Flint did something wrong even he was affected; despite having nothing to do with it. He was as happy as anyone, not Slytherin, when the Weasley twins turned up and began causing havoc for Flint whenever he showed his ugly face.

When he was thirteen and played chaser for Slytherin he noticed it even clearer when he made a goal because no one except for the other students from Slytherin cheered. Adrian defiantly raised his hand in spite of this and pretended that he didn't need anyone else to support him.

It was hard being a good Slytherin. Adrian often laid awake at night thinking about how harshly he was being judged due to the colours he wore on his uniform and the fact that he was seen with the likes of Draco Malfoy, once he came to school, Blaise Zabini and Marcus Flint. No one other than him knew that while it looked like they were all getting along he would roll his eyes at the comments dropped by the breakfast table. More than once it struck him that even a troll could make better conversationalists than those three. A part of him wanted to show the entire school that he wasn't like the rest of them. Adrian wanted to show everyone that there were good people in Slytherin. He especially wanted to show Leanne.

He glanced over at the table where the students from Hufflepuff were seated. She sat in the midst of the loudest group laughing and chatting. Her cheeks were red and her brown eyes wide-open. When she laughed, she did so with her entire body as if the joy was too strong to be contained inside of it. He couldn't help but smile whenever he saw her dark hair or heard her strong voice. They had only ever spoken once in the library.

"Excuse me," Adrian looked down from the ladder where he stood looking for a book. Leanne stood underneath him with a smile on her face and as soon as he laid eyes on her Adrian copied her expression. "Could you maybe get me that book?"

He nodded and moved towards the book so quickly that when he handed it to her he almost dropped it on the floor.

She giggled. "Thank you."

Adrian had watched her leave and decided than that he definitely wanted her to know that he wasn't like the rest of them. Thus, he waited for his moment to prove it to her. And eventually it came.

On May 2nd 1998, Adrian found himself in the Great Hall. He was no longer a student but when the word of a battle reached him; he decided that this was the moment he had been waiting for. He didn't wear his green and silvery uniform when he walked up to Harry.

"I want to fight with you." He said, feeling nervous that he was going to be sent to the dungeons with the others.

"He's a Slytherin." Someone called from the crowd.

Harry nodded his head and smiled. "Yes, he is. But he's one of the good ones."
