"You know what, Evans? For someone who said, and I quote: 'I'd rather marry a trasgus than Potter', you're being a very good wife" James said while giving that cocky smile of his. The typical smile only James Potter could give.
If this was only a few years ago she would be pissed and maybe jinxed him, but that was now. And now things were totally different.
Sometimes she asked herself if this idea - the wedding idea - wasn't just a collateral effect of the war. Like they hushed into things because they were too afraid of the dying idea, too afraid of dying without seeing each other's faces everyday.
"Stop being an arrogant twat, Potter" she answered and sat on his lap "You know I only married you because the trasgus said no to me."
"I doubt somebody could actually say no to you" he joked and placed a kiss in the top of her fiery head.
"You say that because you can't say no to me. You love me."
Then she looked at him and it was like nothing could ever go wrong. His hair was a mess like it always has been since she met him. Potter was still that wide eyed boy with dark hair and a confidence that filled the room. Even now, even with the war going on, even when they both and the baby were being threatened he still managed to look optimistic and handsome as always.
It was on days like this she was able to let herself feel fearless for some minutes.
"James, your son is crying" she said tapping his knee "You should get him."
"My son?"
"When he is crying, yes."
Lily got up of James' lap and sat on the couch looking outside the window. It was a good and nice October day, the wind was softly blowing and there was this warmth only good days could bring.
She felt happy when she thought about her new family. James, Harry, her, Sirius, Remus and Peter were a happy family after all and she couldn't feel better about the people she had chosen to be a part of their life. Even with all the bad things happenning.
When she looked back into the room she saw Harry and James. Both smiling, both with that cocky smile on their faces. Even little Harry already had that terrible cockiness James Potter had and he looked so much like his father, except for his green eyes. They were Lily's.
She got up from the couch and put Harry in her arms.
"James, I didn't notice. Today is Halloween", she said.
If only she knew.
