Hi, this is my first time venturing into the world of Tolkien's making. I haven't written in a while and I think I've gotten rusty at it (pouts at muse) You have one job, sweet muse. ONE JOB.

So yes, here you go ^-^

OIOIOIO

For as long as he could remember, from days spent watching the world morph and change around him with the reckless innocence and abandonment of a mere dwarfling, Fili could never recall a time when the colour red was ever insignificant.

It was the colour of fire and blood; life, passion, energy, strength, determination. It was the colour of the leaves in Ered Luin when he held his baby brother in his arms for the first time; it was the colour that bloomed on Kili's cheeks as they huddled over a fire together, the flames picking embers across coloured irises, trading giggles like 'a pair dwarf maidens in bloom'—Master Balin's words, not his. For all it was worth, Fili had always associated it as a Durin colour through and through.

It was only when he was older that he realize that even red had its shades, and that each one abode something different to him.

Carmine was the colour of their mother's apron as she worked at the stove. Fili remembered it as the make-shift flag he had snatched as he led his brother to cleanse their home of enemies lurking in the shadows. It was the blanket that the brothers had wrapped around themselves later while waiting for Dis and Thorin to return home to them, worn out from their day long battle.

Flame was the colour of metal left to cool at the forges, glinting eerily in the quiet to lure the blatantly trusting dwarfling—or in other words Kili—towards them when big brother wasn't around to pull him back.

Scarlet, wretched scarlet, was the poison that stained his hands as he clutches Kili close in hopes of holding in his lifeline from where the three arrows had caused him to fall with obscene grace.

Scarlet, blessed scarlet, was the last haze that engulfed him before he took off after his baby brother—can't very well leave him to his own devices now, can he?
