A little brunette sat on the steps of a run down house and sobbed. Red,
orange leaves swirled around him, a cool breeze blowing. The chill cut
through his thin shirt easily, causing him to shiver. It was autumn and the
trees were shedding their leaves. The sky was a misty gray, and the clouds
were moving, shifting. The tree leaves rustled, whispering to him. The
little boy rubbed at his damp and sticky face remorsefully. He shivered
again and wrapped his own thin arms around himself to keep his body warm.
The cold from the stone steps were seeping into his bones and his body was
aching dully from sitting in a curled up position. In the distance, he
could hear the faint chatter of people. Rivers of tears ran down his pale
face, trickling from his wide frightened shocked sapphire eyes. "Sis...
Where'd you go? You don't like me anymore? Sis? I'm... all alone." His
voice cracked as he spoke, trembling. The little boy cried quietly,
hunching up his frail shoulders and hugging his knees. His eyes were
swollen and red from crying. His hair was tangled and his bangs fell over
his face untidily. His clothes were unkempt and rumpled. They were slightly
damp, sodden and hanging loosely around his skinny frame. He shuddered, and
began to cough. The coughs racked his body, causing him to rock back and
forth, shaking. He was tired; he couldn't fight it anymore. He was weary of
screaming for her, crying for her. She wouldn't ever come back. He leaned
back, feeling the warm salty tears flow down his face. "These tears I've
cried, I've cried 1000 oceans. And it seems like I'm floating in the
darkness. Well, how could I believe that I could keep you from flying away?
And I would cry 1000 more tears, if that were what it takes to sail you
home. Sail you home... back to me."
A young girl watched from afar, her beautiful youthful face crumpling into a look of utter anguish. She took a step forward, wanting to comfort the boy who sat on the steps, crying. She stopped by a hand gently clutching her shoulder, preventing her from moving further. She was forcefully steered away from the sight and into a waiting car. The girl bit her lip. She looked back, staring in the direction that the boy was. She spoke to him in her head, hoping that miraculously, he would hear her. "Can you forgive me? I don't know what I said, but I didn't mean to hurt you. I heard the words come out, saying that I had to leave and I felt like I would die. It hurt so much to hurt you. Then you look at me, and you're not shouting anymore. You're silently broken." The girl felt tightness in her throat, warmness gathering in her eyes as memories flooded her thoughts. " I'd give anything now, to hear you speak again. Each time I see you, I regret what I had done and I cry, 'I don't want to lose you.' But somehow I know that you will never leave me, and it hurts to know that."
The boy whimpered as it began to rain. He fell to his knees, crying out to the sky, hands out stretched, pleading. " I can't live this life, without you by my side. I need you to survive. Stay with me, please come back!" The falling rain mixed with his glistering tears.
"You look in my eyes and I'm screaming inside that I'm sorry. Would you forgive me? You're my one true friend and I never meant to hurt you." The girl wept, covering her face with her hands. "Please, let me go back." She whispered. The car engine purred quietly, drawing her further away from the run down house and the boy.
