Well, it's been quite some time since I've been here. It's extremely short, but I really just needed to get this off of my mind.
May turn into a full story?
Again, there's very slight spoilers, but it's in the trailer anyway, so. I think it depends on how you read it.
He is reminded of the negatives of having a heart all too soon.
Being with the kid had made him remember the positives, sure — nothing could compare to the elated feeling that came with laughter, to the easy happiness that came from eating ice cream with his friend.
Of course, he remembered the bad side when he was gone. Loneliness. Guilt. Sadness. But that had nothing on this.
After his best friend had left, Axel harbored the hope that he could get him back. He had no idea how or why it should have worked, he simply went on with the idea that it could.
It's now that he is completely struck with heartbreak. Jealousy. Complete and utter longing.
It's now that he realizes that he envies Riku with his entire being.
As Lea stands off to the side, leaning against the wall, he watches the new Keyblade Master and his best friend. He watches as Sora throws an arm around Riku and tries to fight off the threat of oncoming misery.
It's knowing that Roxas, his Roxas, is standing right in front of him, so close, yet so far, that's possibly the worst pain he has ever felt.
