In a small town called Green Hill, there lives a cerulean hedgehog. He's known to win some competitions but not just any competitions. Ice skating was the source of entertainment for the townspeople during the winter. Now this hedgehogs name is-

"Hey, Sonic!" A two-tailed fox called out from the shoreline of the lake. Making the young hedgehog turn to him with a smile.

"Hey tails" Sonic greeted as he skated towards his friend

"You were amazing!" Tails said as he gave his older brother a hug

"Thanks, little buddy" sonic chuckled as he returned the hug before hearing his other ice skating companion

"Hey tails" A certain red echidna greeted as he skated towards them, "I thought practice wasn't over for another hour?" He asked as he crossed his arms

"It is Knuckles. I just came to take a break and speak with my little brother" Sonic said as he turned to face the echidna

"I thought tails is supposed to be in his mechanics club right now," Knuckles asked as he looked at sonic in confusion

Tails smiled sheepishly before remembering why he came to the lake and ditched mechanics club. In excitement, he held up a black envelope making Knuckles understand his excitement.

"You left this in my backpack by accident" Tails said as he gave the letter to Knuckles "so are you gonna tell him," he asked making sonic look at them both in confusion with a playful smile on his face

"Tell me what," Sonic asked as he crossed his arms

"Well remember when tails needed a video of us skating for his math class," Knuckles said making sonic nod "after he was done he gave his project to the wrong teacher thinking that wasn't present at the moment," Knuckles said making tails blush in embarrassment

"Wait, is that why you're staying after school? To pick up your grade?" Sonic asked his little brother his gloved hands resting on his hips.

"Not really, When I gave the video to the supposed teacher it turned out he was a skating coach looking for someplace to pass out flyers," Tails said

Sonic didn't know what that meant for he was too busy trying to piece together what exactly was happening.

"Okay let me get this straight you gave your project to a skating coach who you thought was old and now how does this link up with the envelope that has you so excited?" Sonic asked in exasperation

"I'll explain that," Knuckles said as sonic motioned for him to explain "Well I met him at our favorite coffee shop one day and we began to talk. He was willing to be our coach for any big league ice skating competitions but only if you agreed to attend this one" Knuckles said as he gave Sonic the envelope

Sonic opened said letter and admired the embroidery and lettering of the card. "From the Royal family of Cordelia You are hereby invited to compete in this year's Ice Skating Competition" He read aloud as he looked at the two mobians in front of him

"It could finally boost up our career Sonic," Knuckles said enthusiastically

"And it could take your mind off of you know who" Tails added making sonic frown a little

"I'll think about it but for now you head home before you get a cold. You forgot to wear your winter coat again" Sonic said as tails noticed that he was only wearing his green wool sweater

Tails nodded as he grabbed his backpack and with a turn of his tails he flew home. Sonic sighed as he placed the letter in his blue duffel bag.

"You know you have to move on from him right" Knuckles stated as he sat on the bench and began to untie his skates

"Me and Wade have been together for three years and I'm just not ready to let go yet," Sonic said making Knuckles sigh

"Well I can't change your mind about that but you will think about the skating competition right" Knuckles said making Sonic giggle

"Okay I'll think about it on my way to the grocery store," Sonic said as he was about to take his but knuckles beat him to it as he carried his own in his other hand

"I'll take them back to your house. I'm sure you don't want tails to be by himself for too long" Knuckles said with a smile

Sonic smiled at his longtime friend and nodded. Knuckles walked over to his truck and placed the two bags in the back seats. While sonic buckled up and began the engine to get the car warmed up. When knuckles entered the car he blew on his hands to warm them up as he growled slightly at the cold.

Sonic laughed while knuckles merely glared playfully at him. "Still the same old grouch in winter huh," Sonic said as knuckles began to drive off

"Not my fault. I can stand the cold I just can't stand it for too long" Knuckles said as they both laughed

After a while Knuckles dropped sonic off at the grocery store and promised to pick him up in an hour or two. Sonic waved goodbye and entered the store, grabbing a cart he began to place the items he knew that wasn't stocked up in the house. After a while, he managed to get most of what was on his list except for tails favorite gummy candy.

"Now where can it be" Sonic muttered as he looked at the shelves before bumping into another cart. "I am so sorry. I wasn't watching where I was going and I- Wade?" Sonic said in surprise once he stopped his rambling as he got a better look at the other mobian before him

"Sonic? Wow, it's been a while huh" Said the midnight colored hedgehog. As he scratched the back of his head in awkwardness

"Yeah. And I have to admit this is awkward" Sonic said with a nervous laugh as he kept his gaze on his hands

"Sooo, how have you been," Wade asked trying to make conversation

"I've been good. Um, what about you?" Sonic asked

"Good. I'm here with my girlfriend actually" Wade said shocking sonic for a split second and at that exact moment a teal colored hedgehog appeared and hugged Wade

"Hey, babe!" She said cheerfully before noticing sonic "who's this?" She asked

"April this is Sonic an old friend of mine" Wade informed

"Hello" April greeted warmly at sonic before he felt his phone vibrate in his pocket. Upon checking his phone he silently thanked knuckles for coming early as he put away his phone in his coat pocket.

"Well it was nice seeing you both but I should really get going, Knuckles is waiting outside right now," Sonic said as he moved his cart a bit to make some room to turn toward the checkout counter

"It's good seeing you again," Wade said

"Yeah, you too," Sonic said softly as he quickly went to pay for the items in his cart

After a few minutes, sonic was carrying two bags of groceries towards knuckles truck who was waiting with tails. Tails was already eager to get his hands on the bag of groceries to search for his favorite candy. Smiling sonic placed the two bags with tails as the young kit quickly went to work on searching the two bags.

"You know I gave it some thought and I think we should go to that competition," Sonic said with a smile

"Great. We have this week to pack and we can book a flight to Cordelia on the weekend" Knuckles said before hearing tails begin to whine

"Sonic. You forgot to get my gummy candy" Tails said with a frown as sonic noticed the groceries out of the bags they were in

Knuckles groaned as sonic laughed while tails sat in his seat pouting that he didn't get his candy.
