Happy Activation Day Data

Author's Note: I had this idea for a while and am now writing it. Hope you enjoy the story! Please read and review! Star Trek and its characters are not mine so don't sue.

Whoever claimed that androids didn't have emotions, which included Data himself, was wrong. There was a moment of surprise and even a touch of joy on the android's face, when everyone jumped out of hiding to celebrate his birthday or more accurately the day he was found on Omicron Theta and activated.

Mostly everyone was happy for Data. Even Spot was enjoying herself and was currently rubbing against Worf's leg. Worf was not so pleased but he was polite enough not to say anything. He even awkwardly pet the animal which he understood was the appropriate response to a pet.

"I thank you all for this wonderful party." Data commented smiling a little.

Dr. Crusher and Troi brought out the cake and everyone sang "Happy Birthday". Data took a moment before he realized he was supposed to blow out the candles. He blew so hard, he knocked over several of the candles. Everyone laughed and Data looked confused.

"Did I do something humorous?" Data asked quite perplexed.

Troi smiled, "Data, you were only supposed to blow out the flames not knock over the whole candles."

"Ah, I see."

Riker came up to Data and put a top hat on Data that said, "Birthday boy."

"What is the purpose as to wearing this? Does not everyone already know it was my birthday?" Data asked.

"It's a tradition, Data." Riker explained.

"Oh, I get it now!"

Riker smiled at his friend and pat him on the back and handed him a box wrapped in wrapping paper. Data faked the best smile he could manage and opened the gift. He remembered that he wasn't supposed to conserve the wrapping paper so he ripped it open and lifted up the lid to the box to find a watch inside. Data knew he probably would never need it, but he figured he could at least show his appreciation by wearing it so he put it on his right wrist.

Data also got a vase from Troi who encouraged him to use for flowers. He got a knife from Worf. He got a bottle of French wine from Picard. He got a music box from Dr. Crusher and some Cuban cigars from Geordi.

Data was happy to be with his friends and celebrating what Troi had labeled his special day. Spot smashed into the cake and licked vanilla frosting from her fur and paws. Everyone laughed. Worf looked relieved to not have the cat by his side any more. Nobody was too terribly upset about the cake. They simply just replicated another cake. Data took the liberty of slicing and serving the cake.

Once everybody had a slice, the crew then told stories of Data's funny moments. From the time he asked what "snooping" meant then showed an understanding of similes of that word. Then they spoke of the time Data said "goodbye Data" when Wesley told him. Then they spoke of Data bursting out laughing for no particular reason. Then they spoke of all the times Data went on explaining something when it wasn't necessarily important. Then there was a time that Data got drunk and saved the day with Wesley's help. Also when Data tried to small talk with Picard.

Their merriment went on for hours before they had to return to duty. Data had a great day. He considered this birthday being the best day of his life. He looked to his watch and smiled.

Author's Note: Hope you enjoyed this happy little story. I will go back and add more if I get any ideas, but don't expect anything. Oh and please do review and no flames.
