The Pain of Her Closeness

A One-Shot inspired my best friend obsessing about how sweet Snape and Lily's relationship was, and how I thought it was too painful to be talked about.

She shone through the darkness like a phoenix ablaze.

Always bright and loving

He never fully appreciated it

The warming of his heart when he heard her calling his name in that sweet, sweet voice

The way her lips formed words he was always too entranced to hear

The way her face reddened when she was defending him against that "Potter boy"

And the way she would storm away with tears in her eyes when he told her that he could take care of himself and rashly called her a mudblood

He remembers the times they would meet in the library and they would sit at the table farthest back to avoid the curious stares.

(A Gryffindor and Slytherin being seen TOGETHER? The horror!)

But when she came close, he couldn't take it

He knew she would never feel the same way he did

So desperately, desperately in love.

Oh, the pain of her closeness

The pain drove him mad. His mind was a whirl of

What could he do? It made him stare at the ceiling for hours after everyone else was asleep

She was all he could think about. Her hair, her voice, her hands, her touch.
