I wrote this a long time ago, and I can't remember what I had planned for it, but now I'm just going to leave it as a oneshot. It's not one of my personal favorite accomplishments, but it's still alright, and I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.

Here we go:D

Contemplation

Lt. Col. John Sheppard sat in a briefing lost in thought.

It was just a dream! Just a dream, nothing more. Get a grip on yourself.

He turned his head and glanced to his left. He thought he saw her looking at him, but he was sure he imagined it.

Why was this happening? He'd been in another world all day and he couldn't stop thinking about her.

Of course, he knew the answer to that question. This was nothing like his various girlfriends on Earth. Or any of the pretty aliens that he flirted with in Pegasus, for that matter. No, this was serious. Very serious.

Which brought him to the next question. Why did he have to be attracted to his boss? Why not Teyla? She was certainly pretty enough. Or anyone else? Why couldn't he get his mind off the one person he knew he shouldn't be.

Not that he didn't know exactly why it had ended up this way. She was beautiful, charming, witty, and that little mischievous smile she had sometimes…God, he loved that. She was all he could think about. He spent all night dreaming about her. And if he ever did forget, he was constantly being jerked back to reality whenever she walked through the door and spent the rest of the time with his subconscious kicking him for ever having a life of his own.

And normally he wouldn't have cared that she was his boss. He wasn't usually the type to have unwritten rules stand in his way. But, for once in his life, something was more important than his own romantic feelings. Atlantis was more important.

He leaned forward with his head in his hands. It was a good thing this wasn't an urgent briefing. Just McKay and one of his new toys. Everyone looked awake but not quite alert. She even looked lost in her head, but he could tell she was at least trying to listen to Rodney, which was more than he could say for the others. That was another thing he loved about her. She was always strong, trying to set an example. She really was a great leader for Atlantis.

Maybe if they had picked some military commander I wouldn't be in this situation.

But he knew he didn't mean that. They couldn't have picked anyone better and falling in love with her was totally his own fault.

What was he going to do? Nothing. He couldn't do anything. And he hated that. He supposed he would move on eventually. But with her around all the time, eventually would be a very long time. She would keep running the city like she always did. He had caused too much trouble for her to see him as anything but the cocky Colonel who had a slight problem with authority. Besides, the way his luck was going lately, he didn't have any chance at all.

By this time the briefing was nearly over. He risked a glance in her direction. She seemed more alert now.

McKay, oblivious to everyone's dazed expressions, continued to ramble about a new room he'd found.

"…So, I've come to the conclusion that these," he held up what looked a lot like a Star Trek phaser, "are a kind of Ancient handgun. I've counted at least 3 dozen of them along with larger, more powerful versions. Of course, it won't do us much good since you need the gene to use them. But they may slightly heighten our chances against the Wraith."

Hmm…an Ancient arsenal? McKay might actually be on to something.

Elizabeth stood up, which brought John's attention back to her. "Good work, Rodney. Now it's getting late. I think we should all get some sleep."

FIN…I think

I'm thinking about doing to briefing from Elizabeth's point of view, but after that this one's done.
