When Weasleys Get Jealous

Although she didn't know it, little two year old Rose Weasley was jealous.

It had all started two weeks ago when her father, Ron Weasley, woke her up at three in the morning, muttering about contractions and labour. This had scared the pyjama clad toddler because if your daddy goes a bit mad and starts muttering, it doesn't usually mean anything good.

Ron had picked her up and taken her, by floo, to her Uncle's house, where she found her Auntie Ginny nursing a tiny red haired baby and her Uncle Harry nodding in an armchair. Ron then gave his daughter a kiss, muttered 'thanks' and disappearing in a flash of green flames.

Harry then took her little hand in his enormous one and led her upstairs to her cousin Albus' room, where a little bed sat waiting.

Rose had woken up next morning to hear that her mummy had had a little baby boy and she was finally a big sister.

Now Rose had been waiting excitedly for the arrival of her baby brother for just over nine months and she was a bit disappointed. She thought she would have a playmate almost immediately but when she first saw Hugo Weasley he was fast asleep.

That's all he seemed to do over the next few days, sleep. Sleep and cry. Rose had asked why Hugo couldn't just tell her what was wrong instead of screaming, but he started again and Hermione quite forgot to answer her eldest.

It was now two weeks from when Hugo had been born and Rose was beginning to think that her parents had forgotten her. She'd been sat in the airing cupboard for what felt like hours (and was actually twenty minutes) with only a chocolate frog, her teddy bear and an old blanket.

Just then the cupboard door opened and the long nose and blue eyes of her father appeared through the crack.

"Rosie, what are you doing in here?" He asked

"Hiding." She replied turning her face away. She could be a very stubborn little girl sometimes.

"Who are you hiding from?"

"You."

Ron didn't like that, his baby girl hiding from him. It wasn't right. But then it dawned on him, the cause of all this, the hiding, the naughtiness and cheekiness. So he pulled Rose out the cupboard, carried her to the kitchen and sat down in one of the four chairs there.

"Is it about Hugo?" She still wouldn't look at him but nodded slowly.

"He's only little, Rosie, he needs mummy and daddy."

"But ... but ... aw he does is cwy and sweep and when he is sweeping, you and mummy are too. I have no one to play wiv any more and you and mummy don't wuve me anymore." She burst in to tears. Ron patted her on the back slowly and waiting for the tears to subside a little before speaking.

"Mummy and I do love you, very much. It's just Hugo is just a little baby and he can't tell mummy and daddy what's wrong, that's why he cries. He's not strong like you, not yet. You're a big girl aren't you and one day Hugo will be a big boy too and won't need mummy and daddy as much anymore, he'll be able to do all the things you can do and you can play with him."

Ron dried the tears off his daughters face and she smiled.

"I think mummy's awake, shall we go and see her?"

Rose nodded and the two walked off to see Hermione.

All was well in the Weasley household once more.
