My Beloved

"Iggy! That was like, amazing! It was on target and everything! Like-"
"Nudge." I could feel her stiffen beside me. Gasman and Angel were asleep. Fang and Max were off finding food while the others – us – rested. Max had left me to watch the others sleep. Nudge had been awake as long as I, and had been talking the entire time.
"Nudge," I repeated softly, reaching out to comfort her. She moved, so that my fingers brushed against her soft feathers. I leaned forward and grabbed her arm, pulling her to me. I wish I could see her. I had had Gazzy describe her to me once, right after I had turned eighteen. I had made him describe everyone to me – just so I could remember. He told me she was my absolute opposite. Dark, talkative, and clueless. I wasn't sure she was exactly clueless, and I could only imagine how dark she was. I've seemed to forget. She was talkative, though.
"Nudge, sometimes it's just better to listen. Listen to your surroundings, people's words, their heartbeats," I could hear her gasp softly as I pressed my thumb against her dark lips. I pulled her into a tight embrace, smiling into her hair as I felt her wings fold against her back. She was a grown woman now, but she was still a child. How old were we? In our twenties? It had seemed like forever ago that we were children.
"Iggy," She mumbled against my chest. "I'm sorry."
I shrugged, stroking her feathers, feeling them twitch involuntarily as I preened them. "Don't be, Nudge. I'm used to it. In fact – I kind of like it, even when it's annoying."
She laughed, a kind, gentle laugh. "You know, I've always admired you."
"Why is that?" I asked.
"You've lost a lot… and you knew how it was before… I'd have gone crazy."
"Maybe I'm crazy."
"Iggy," Nudge uttered shyly. "I've noticed you looking at me. Well, notlooking, you're blind, but-"
I silenced her with a kiss, holding her face firmly in my hands. Her lips, those wondrous, talkative lips, softened under my own. I felt her body relax as she started to kiss me back, her arms wrapping around my neck, her chest against mine.
"Nudge," I whispered when we finally broke away, feeling her tears on my thumb. "Promise me you'll never change. You're vibrant, and beautiful, and my sun – my color, my sight."
"Iggy," She sighed into my ear, her arms lowering to my torso, where she wrapped me in a hug. "I'm always here," And she kissed me again, leaving me breathless and wondering if – had I been able to see just how beautiful she was, and not only be able to hear her gorgeous voice – I'd have enough courage to be where I was. Enveloped in the wings of my beloved.
Haha… Yes, another fanfic. This is just a oneshot. They're older, so I guess it's given enough time for a romance to bloom between them. Maybe later I'll turn this into a multi-chapter. If you really want to see it grow, please leave a review! I might write another chapter now and again, after EOCs.
