Hey this is my first ever Fanfiction to be put on Fanfiction :) It's not great, but my writing teacher thought so. Not really long. BTW This is a one shot!
Disclaimer - I do not own Bridge to Terabithia or anything of the sorts. So yeah.
"Leslie! Wait up!" he yelled. She was ahead of him by at least three feet.
"Come on Jess! Are you going to let a girl beat you again?" Leslie teased.
He pumped harder, his chest rising and falling as he tried to catch her in the dark. The only light was from the lantern that Leslie held in her right hand. It was his only guide in the pitch black night. Jess and Leslie slowed as they came closer to the creek. The worn and tattered rope was still in it's rightful place tied to the tree.
Leslie knelt by the creek while Jess grabbed hold of the rope. The creek was flowing with water to the very top. Jess was having an uneasy feeling in his gut. A small voice in the back of his head said to go back home.
"Leslie, lets go back home. Now please. I don't have a good feeling 'bout this," he said while eyeing the high waters in the creek.
"Oh come on Jess. A little water never stopped us before," Leslie whined to him.
"Leslie," he spoke seriously. "The creek is flowing water. It's never been this high before. If the rope snaps…". He trailed off on the last part. "You know I can't swim. You won't be able to save me."
"Jess, nothing is going to happen. But if you want to you can go back home. I can handle myself." Leslie reassured him.
Well so can I, Jess thought to himself. He liked Leslie, a lot. She was his best friend. His only friend. Jess was the only boy out of four children.
He didn't exactly fit in at school what with his ruined tennis shoes, and not to mention he spends most of his free time with a girl. But no matter what he felt for Leslie he wasn't going to let her tell him what to do. He swallowed his fear and put on his 'big boy' pants.
"No. It's ok. I'll come with you."
"Ok then. Let's go!" Leslie squealed with excitement.
She grabbed the rope from his hands, positioned herself, and jumped. She landed safely on the other side. Leslie placed the lantern on the ground and tossed the rope to Jess. He caught it, but then hesitated.
"Come on Jess! We don't have all night!" Leslie hollered from the other side of the creek.
Again he felt like Leslie was hurting his ego because he knew she was right. She's right Jess. Sun will be up soon. Let's just get it done and over with. He positioned himself, had second thoughts, then jumped. He leaned back, looking up at the starry sky. He felt the familiar feeling of exhilaration. Jess welcomed it.
When he landed on the other side safely, he tied the rope to the tree and he and Leslie ran to their tree house. They ran to Terabithia.
Well that's it! I do like criticism, just not…flames? Let me know what you think. Leave suggestions! I'm only 13! I need help! R&R for me! :)
