First and foremost….. This is a DEATH fic. Don't like don't read see? Other than that there will be slightly dark themes and blood along with Yullen. This fan fiction is about why red roses are red and why they symbolize everlasting love. I do not own, to my disappointment.

This is my first fan fiction as an author, so I would appreciate it if all you readers out there would tell me what you think. That said, NO FLAMES PLEASE. They will not be tolerated. Please enjoy this piece.

Long ago, in Edo, Japan there lived a young boy. She was beautiful and cold, yet sought after by many. His parents were not overly wealthy, but the large family lived comfortably. The only servants in the house were the maid and the gardener. The boy was name Yuu Kanda and he was the youngest. He was the last to be born in a family of talented older siblings. While his older sisters liked to embroider and his older brothers went after girls, Kanda was content to practice his katana forms in the garden with the gardener. The gardener was a boy younger than he with snow white hair, a disfigured arm, and a red scar on his eye. His name was Allen Walker.

Despite his cold facade, Yuu Kanda liked to help Allen water the roses. The young gardener loved roses. They were his favorite flower, even though they only grew in white. They stood out against the lilies and daisies.

Like the roses and lilies, Allen could not be more different than Kanda. Kanda came from comfort and grace. Allen came from extreme poverty and had long ago lost his childhood innocence. His parents had died, killed themselves as they were unable to bear the cruelty of poverty any longer. At the tender age of sixteen, Allen now had to find a way to support himself. Thus, that was how our young gardener ended up at Kanda's home.

He tried his hardest to make the plants in the garden beautiful and healthy, that Kanda could easily see, but was pitifully paid for his efforts. What little money he earned from his job went to food and rent of a little shack. The gardener boy was a weak person, often falling ill. When that happened, Kanda noticed his health deteriorating at an inhuman rate. For, when he was ailing, Allen could not work and thus did not earn any money. Because he earned no money, he could not pay is rent and fell into an accumulating debt.

Kanda could do nothing to help his docile friend, save for bringing him scraps from dinner as he was unable to cook for himself. Due to Kanda's caring for him when anyone else wouldn't have cared, Allen would do his best to get well and start working again. When he was feeling better, Allen would start, once again, overworking his frail body in the efforts to support himself. This would lead to him getting sick again. Anyone who observed Allen after his periods of invalidity would have thought he hated life and blamed himself for something. Because he did. Allen thought that if he had not been born, his parents would still be alive. If he never existed, they would have one less mouth to feed and one less person to worry about. Allen loved his parents, even though his father was abusive.

Cross was the one who beat Allen daily. As the blow rained down on his fragile frame, all Allen could ever think about was how he deserved it. His mind still ran through the fact that, he was the one responsible for his parents' deaths. Kanda, never having experience these feelings did not notice Allen's pain.
