With a deep sigh, Cloud pushed the heavy Church doors open, allowing the sunlight to burst through. He was aware that the last battle with Sephiroth might mean he'd never get the chance to come back here and somehow he felt as if he had to visit. It had been her Church once. But that was before she was taken from them.
Yuffie made a bored sound from behind him, not understanding why they were here. Nanaki also looked slightly confused but, unlike the young girl, he made no comment. Cloud slowly walked up the aisle, listening to the thud of his boots on the wooden floors as it echoed around him. The flowers that had broken his fall danced softly in the cool breeze that travelled through the open doors and the hole in the roof. Her beloved plants and it was because of him that she would never see them again.
Another sigh escaped his lips as he looked down at the floor guiltily. But there was a sense of loss too, as if he had lost his own soul when she was killed. Slowly, he looked up again.
And froze.
Amongst the sunlight that filtered through the hole in the roof, her ghostly form stood, shimmering like an angel. Cloud's eyes widened and he quickly glanced over his shoulder to see his friend's reactions. They were acting as if nothing unusual was going on. He turned to face in front of him again. But she was no longer there.
"Shall we go Cloud?" Nanaki asked after a few seconds of silence. Cloud kept his eyes fixed on the spot where the sunlight pooled on the floor.
"Yeah," he said distractedly before he shook his head and followed Yuffie and Nanaki out of the Church. It was just wishful thinking, he thought as he closed the door behind him.
