Scared
Bang!
Maureen's eyes bolted open at the sound of thunder, her heart immediately picking up it's pace. She slowly turned on her back and a strike of lightening lit up the room, revealing Joanne's sleeping figure.
Maureen whimpered when another clash of thunder hit. Her eyes stayed glued to Joanne hoping the lawyer would wake up and share her fright, but to her surprise Joanne stayed asleep, looking as peaceful as ever.
She and Joanne had only been together for a couple of months, so there were still some things left unknown about each other. For instances, Joanne had no idea Maureen was terrified of thunderstorms, since this was the first one they ever experienced together.
The wind soon picked up causing the rain to hit hard against the window. This was the only time Maureen admitted to ever missing Mark. The filmmaker used to hold her until the storms passed, but now she didn't have him, instead she had Joanne who was in a dead sleep.
Maureen whimpered again when thunder and lightening hit at the same time, this time Joanne actually stirred a bit, but didn't wake up.
Maureen sat up a little, her eyes focusing on Joanne. "Please wake up…please wake up!"
Bang!
"Oh fuck I'm scared!" Maureen whined and fell on her back, pulling the blankets over her head.
"Maureen?" Joanne called out sleepily, the movement the diva was making causing her to wake.
Maureen slowly peeked her head out from under the covers, her eyes falling on Joanne.
"What's wrong?" Joanne asked.
"Nothing…" Maureen lied, not wanting Joanne to know she was scared. She was just happy the lawyer was now awake.
"Oh okay…" Joanne said unsurely and laid back down, her eyes instantly closing.
Another loud bang of thunder went off and Maureen watched and hoped Joanne would wake back up but she didn't. Not able to handle this on her own anymore the diva reached out and shook Joanne.
"Wake up." Maureen pleaded and Joanne's eyes slowly opened, just in time to see a flash of lightening.
"Hmmm?" Was Joanne's response, along with another crash of thunder.
Maureen pounced towards Joanne, causing Joanne to wake up some more. "Maureen what is it?"
"I'm scared." Maureen said, her answer muffled by Joanne's shirt.
"Of what?" Joanne asked.
Maureen winced when there was another round of loud thunder and lightening.
Joanne figured it out before Maureen could answer. "Of the storm?"
Maureen nodded with a pout. "Can you stay up until I fall asleep?"
Joanne couldn't help but smile. She didn't think a silly little storm would bring Maureen down. But instead of making fun of her, she opened her arms and pulled Maureen in close. Maureen sighed in relief and relaxed into the lawyer. She already started to feel safe, that is until another loud clash of thunder hit, causing the room to shake.
"Joanne?" Maureen called out, her voice shaky. "You still up?"
Joanne giggled and wrapped her arms more tightly around Maureen. "I'm still up."
"Good." Maureen yawned and curled her head under Joanne's chin. The lightening lit up the room and the thunder went off again, but this time Maureen didn't get scared, for she had Joanne's protective arms wrapped around her.
