If Ever

If ever I was to marry
It would have been you, my dear.
My dearest lass, my fragrant rose
It's hard to imagine being
Without you.

I wandered long and far,
And made you wait for me
Thank you for not forgetting
What we had.

I see you in the sunshine,
Ruby in your arms
And through the woman's eyes I see
The lass I knew
When I was young.
No matter how old we grow
You are most beautiful to me.
And if ever I had to do it again,
Go back and start the journey anew,
I would, so I could come home to
You again.

If ever I was to marry,
It would have been you, my Rose.
But I'm already married to you, you see,
So I suppose I can't have the pleasure again.
Or perhaps I can.

Rose, would you marry me?
