My first fanfic - please don't be too harsh! I'm still debating whether or not to continue this story. After you read it, review and tell me whether or not to try and expand upon it.

Yugi awoke, the afternoon sun beating down on him like a hammer. His eyes fluttered open, taking in the unfamiliar landscape that now surrounded him; miles upon miles of endless sand. Sitting up, he tried to recall the events leading up to him sitting cross-legged in the dunes now. He had a terrible migraine, and his vision was hazy, but on the horizon he could just make out a large city.

Why was he here? He tried to remember, but his memory failed him. The last thing he could recall was being with Tristan, Joey, Tea and Shadi – they had been trying to find a way out of the Millennium Puzzle's maze. The Pharaoh had been sucked into the world of his memories, to relive his time as King of Egypt, and Yugi wanted nothing more than to be with him for that. So, Shadi had escorted them into the maze that would lead to a portal into that world. They had just found the way out, and Yugi had jumped into the sky – and that was the last thing he remembered.

He stood up, shaking off the sand from his toga. Wait, he thought, toga? It was then that Yugi realized what he was wearing – a white toga, sandals and pounds upon pounds of heavy golden jewelry. On his head sat a crown, and on his arm was something that greatly resembled a duel disk. His body was extremely tan, and he felt a bit… taller than usual. Actually, the only familiar thing about himself was his Millennium Puzzle, on a lace around his neck as always… Somehow, though, it seemed much shinier than before. Newer, even.

Okay, Yugi thought, looking at himself, now I'm really confused. Where are my friends? What's happened to them? He began to walk towards the direction of the city, knowing that his answers must lie there.

After an hour or so of travel, he sat down to take a break. Man, Yugi thought, this Egyptian sun sure is hot. I wonder how the Pharaoh ever dealt with it… An idea suddenly popped into his head, and he closed his eyes, trying to imagine the Spirit as best he could.

Pharaoh! he called out in his mind. I'm here, in the world of your memories! Can you hear me? Now that the Pharaoh was closer, Yugi could surely connect with him. Although they no longer shared the same body, their connection still ran deep and perhaps there was a chance that they could still communicate.

To Yugi's astonishment, the spirit's reaction was immediate. The world around him faded, and in front of him he could see the spirit of the puzzle just like he always had before.

Yugi, said the Pharaoh, his eyes filled with confusion, what have you done?

Yugi tilted his head. I have no idea what you mean, Pharaoh. My friends and I, we wanted to help you – Shadi led us to the world of your memories, and now I'm here! But I have no idea where my friends have gone… Yugi looked at the Pharaoh, trying to figure out exactly what he was trying to say.

No, Yugi, that's not it. The Pharaoh tried to put his hand on Yugi's shoulder, but it just fell through his body. You're here – but not as you. You're in my body!

Confused? Well, don't worry, I am too. Just an idea that popped into my head. Tell me what you think! (remember this takes place during the Millennium World arc, kind of like a re-write of the ending of YGODM - trying to keep it as canon as possible)
