Where The Colors Don't Go

Summary: That's where the colors don't go, that's where the colors don't show -Sam Phillips

A/N: It's another challenge fic. Rach asked that I used Where The Colors Don't Go by Sam Phillips. I loved that song ever since I heard it on Gilmore Girls and I thought, hey, I should use it for Scully in IWTB, cause it sooo fits. So this is kind of Scully's thoughts I guess.

Dedication: Rach.. shocking, I know.

Disclaimer: I own them not, dammit.

Things had been falling apart for awhile, he spent more time locked up in his 'bunker' and she spent more hours at the hospital. Every day it became harder to sign out, it took more energy to get into her car and it took every ounce of strength she had to open that gate. She'd park in front of the house, pausing for a moment and resting her head on the steering wheel. Shaking her head, she'd climb out of the car and go inside -feet feeling like lead.

On this night, it was cold and the wind outside sent shivers down her spine on the short walk from the car to the front door of their house. She walked in, shedding her gloves, coat and bag. She dropped her keys on the table, pulled off her shoes and set them by the door, padding quietly through the house on her nylon covered feet. She saw the light peeking out from his door and she opened it quietly, "I'm home."

"How was work, Doc?" He asked, not looking up from his work.

"Fine. How was your day?" She looked at him, searching for the man she used to know.

"Fine." He replied, his hand reaching up to work out the knotted muscles of his neck.

"I'm going to take a bath, you coming up soon?" She asked softly.

"Sure." He shrugged.

"Alright then." She doesn't hide the disappointment in her voice as she backs out of the room, closing the door behind her.

A lone tear slides down her cheek, walking up the stairs. She walked into the bedroom and filled the tub with water, mixing in her favorite bath salts and undressing. She slid into the warm water and let it wash away the tension of the day. Plugging her nose and holding her breath, she slid under the water. When she came back up, her hair clung to her face and her make-up ran down her face. She felt so alone.

She rinsed off and slid into her worn out flannel pajamas, her hair was still damp. She didn't turn on a light as she walked to the bedroom, stumbling onto the bed and under the covers of the bed. It was cold and empty, she was alone. This time, she didn't fight the tears that fell. She turned onto her stomach and sobbed into her pillow.

He opened the door, walking into the room. When he saw her shoulders shaking, a part of him broke. He walked over to the bed, climbing in beside her. He pulled her into his arms and she burried her head in the crook of his neck. He wiped her tears away, kissing her forehead and then her nose. He tipped her chin up to face him, blue eyes meeting hazel.

"I love you, Scully."
"I love you, Mulder"

A/N: I know, super freaking short. But I think it works. apologize for bad grammar and any spelling mistakes I didn't catch. I have no works or word on here. Please review, I love you all.
