It was early in the morning when he got out of bed, careful not to wake his Master as he slipped from their shared quarters within the temple. What he had to do this morning, he couldn't do with an audience. Not around people who had been here practically since birth and didn't celebrate days like this one.
It was a special day today, and he wanted to see the Coruscant sunrise in celebration this morning. It wouldn't feel right if he didn't.
Reaching the upper floors and stepping off the lift, he found a window and looked out at the city to find that the Coruscant system's sun was just rising over buildings on the horizon, casting light across the cityscape. Illuminating all that moved.
He smiled and bowed his head, taking this moment to think of his mother on faraway Tatooine. Was she still a slave out there? Was she free? Was she... happy? He didn't know. But in moments like this where all was quiet, he allowed himself to think about her. To wonder.
A hand on his shoulder startled him and he whirled to find his Master standing there, smiling at him gently. "Didn't mean to startle you, Anakin."
"Wasn't expecting you." He turned back to the window, and the sunrise beyond. "I wanted to be alone."
"And I wanted to observe this day with you for once." At his questioning glance, his Master smiled. "We all have mothers out there somewhere, even if we only knew them briefly."
Anakin nodded, and together they watched the sun continue to rise in reverent silence. Duty could wait for a little while...
