"Addie are you done? Ignoring people because I need to know if I should give up and just stop trying. I mean I understand the whole situation, but I had to go and ask Uncle Mark where you were. I mean my parents sure wouldn't have told me, you KNOW that. I didn't find out till like a week after you were gone. You just- LEFT."
Fifteen year old Kayla loved her Aunt Addison. Back in New York, she would always walk to Addison's place after school, and watch TV or work on homework until Addie got home, because, well, Kayla's parents weren't exactly the family type. Her mother was a well known Psychologist, and her Father was a lawyer. They were going to send Kayla off to boarding school when she got into Jr. High but Kayla would have rather be miserable at home, than be sent to the other side of the country where she would be even MORE alone. If at any point in time they were home for some reason, they were on the phone for some business situation, or too tired to ask about each others day. Even on holidays, like Christmas, they would set out presents (Kayla never opened them. She didn't need any of that stuff) with a note on top saying "Merry Christmas Sweetie, sorry were not here its really busy down at the offices. Your Aunt Addie and Uncle Derek are waiting for you! Love Mom and Dad". Addison was someone Kayla really looked up to. Although she was from Dereks side of the family, Addison was still like her mother.
Once Derek left, Addison almost immediately moved into an apartment since she didn't need to be in a big Brownstone all by herself. (Kayla wasn't stupid. It was only a year ago which made her 14, and she put the pieces together. Why Uncle Derek wasn't around anymore, and why Mark was all of a sudden over at the apartment almost every night.) For two months after Derek miraculously disappeared, Kayla never asked any questions. She already knew the answers to them all, but that wasn't the reason. The reason was because she was scared if she said anything, Addison would cut her out of her life too.
All Addison cared or thought about was trying to make thing work with Derek. Now its almost a year later, after Addison spent 9 months at Seattle Grace with not even a phone call or letter, or email, or text message to see how her favorite niece (even though her and Derek are now divorced) was doing. To let her niece know she's ok, A few weeks after Addison got up and ran off again to the Los Angeles area, Kayla and Addison sit together on a couch on the loft of Addisons temporary apartment. They look out at the waves, the wind slightly blowing, and drinking their lemonade.
"I'm Sorry."
"Yea well. I'm not mad. I understand. Ok well I don't really, but I just. You know how much you meant to me Addie. When you and Derek were together you both still meant a lot to me. And well mom called Derek a while back, and lets just say my mom wasn't too happy to find out he now is divorced. Aunt Nancy told her some details bout him and this other new girl, but Kathleen wanted to talk to Uncle Derek herself."
Addison smirk as she listened to Kayla speak. "Obviously as you know Mark came out and ugh. It just got crazy. So I just kept running."
Kayla looked at Addison and smiled. Kayla remained cross-legged on the couch, but reached over and gave Addison a hug.
"Well since mom and dad sent me out here for the summer, we have all the time to catch up on everything. But first, I have to ask... What made you run away again?"
"I fell in love with an intern..."
