Her dad might think he could see everything, but Emily knew he couldn't. He might be able to solve a case before anything serious happened, but he doesn't always know what's best for him personally. He was spending so much time with her mom these days that Emily was starting to realize her wishes of having them back together wasn't what she wanted. Happiness. That was what she wanted for her dad, for everyone. The fighting and arguing was only the beginning of what happened when her mom and dad were together. Emily had learned a lot about reading people from her dad(it was what he did for a living, after all), so it wasn't hard for her to see he wasn't happy with her mom. The worst part was, they acted like they didn't remember what it was like before. How bad it was. The shouting. The anger. Even sadness and confusion managed to stir around with the tension.

Emily looked up as she heard voices coming down the hall. She placed the photograph of the three of them on vacation back into her pocket. She didn't know why her dad liked that photo; the day wasn't the worst, but it still had way too many disagreements. Emily had concluded that he just liked the picture because they were all together.

"Goodnight, Cal," a voice said. Emily recognized it as Gillian Foster, her dad's colleague and friend.

"Night, luv," Her dad soon walked into the office, small smile on his face, and her guess that he was with Gillian was confirmed. He was always happier when she was around. Ever since her dad has been spending more time with her mom and less time at his office where Gillian usually would be, Emily noticed he had been even grumpier than usual.

"Hey, ready to go home?"

"Yeah, Dad." Emily got up from the couch and walked over to the door."Mom's not coming over again tonight, is she?"

"No," her dad replied as he put his hand on her shoulder. "She has something with Roger." Emily let out a sigh of relief, earning herself a puzzled look from her dad.

"What?" she replied innocently and smiled. This was going to be a long ride home.

Author's Note: Just wanted to write a little something about how Emily felt about Cal and Zoe, and even Gillian.
