Ok this is a first page entry and my first piece of writing, be gentle.

"Shit! That was disgusting!"

"What was?"

"How could you not have seen that?"

Reining up his horse, he stopped. She looked at him, and in the chequered light, he saw she looked more pale than usual.

"Back there." she pointed. "A family hung from a tree. There were vultures pecking at them."

"I'll go look."

"No! You won't."

A few vulture flew overhead to join their flock in the feast. He gripped his reins tight and drew a deep breath.

"It could be bandits, or worst my Lady."

"You won't."

He looked in the direction of the vultures, when they had passed the spot he had been looking the other direction at birds flying down from the hills. The hills were rumoured to have caves that bandits made their home. The road they travelled had a reputation for them, but it was safer than most roads, which held richer pickings.

"I have to pee," she said, as she dismounted "don't follow me."

Tying the reins around a low branch she walked toward an over growth of brambles and trees. She was already out of sight by the time he had dismounted and tethered his horse to follow her.

"Lady Melasand are you ok?"

Silence.

"Melasand?"

"Good grief man, can't I pee in peace? And I told you not to follow me."

His fingers instinctively found the pommel of his sword as, he looked around the forest it was still; too still. Something speed past his face and a thunk told him something had buried it's self into a tree. He turned sword already unsheathed looking and, looking back at the tree with the arrow he saw Melasand pulling it out.
