Out

Though just the slightest bit overused, I felt the urge to write it anyways… Also, there isn't nearly enough of this pairing.

Ziva David knows quite a few languages. Most of the time, this proves to be a good thing. Though, sometimes, sometimes it isn't. She gets a little confused sometimes, with so many ways to express her herself flitting through her head. Nothing big though, not usually at least, just taking things too literally or not literally enough. One instance of this can be seen while she's talking to Abby. They were having a nice conversation, just the two of them. Full of bright smiles, over the top laughter, and maybe just a few flirtatious comments slipped in on Abby's part. Well… not all the way on Abby's side. Ziva and Abby were thinking along the same lines. Interest in each other that is. The only problem was Ziva's literal and analytical thinking. Abby didn't know that though. She knew that she was flirting. She knew that Ziva's body language was completely tuned into her… or at the very least she was very interested in the conversation. Abby decided to take the risk anyways.

"Willyougooutwithme?" She blurted sometime between the second she decided to take a risk and the second her mind caught up with what that risk could mean. She panicked, internally of course. On the other hand, Ziva's brain was working furiously. That was English right? It took her a second to decide that the sentence just wasn't going to be deciphered easily without a repeat.

"What?" Abby steeled herself. Look suspicious or answer the question?

"I said: will you go out with me?" The silence was longer this time, though the sentence was deciphered. Confused. Abby risked a glance upwards, tearing her gaze from her shoes. Ziva's brows were furrowed. Her gaze was unfocused and she was mouthing Abby's words, as though there were a hidden meaning she didn't understand.

"You… want me to walk you to your vehicle?" Her brows were sill furrowed, though her head had fallen to the side and she was giving Abby a questioning look, as if asking if she was correct. "You did not need to ask. I would have walked with you anyhow." Abby frowned.

"Ummm… no… that's not what I meant." She started slowly. Silence descended again, this time in question. When it became clear that Abby wasn't going to expand on her answer, Ziva spoke up.

"What is it you meant then? I am sorry, but I do not understand…" Her voice was quiet, gentle. As though a loud noise would scare Abby off like a skittish animal. Abby closed her eyes and took a deep, calming breath.

"I meant… Would you go out with me… as in… on a date." Ziva stared at her. "I mean, you don't have to," She backtracked quickly. "I just thought that maybe-"

"I would enjoy that very much Abby. I was just thinking of Gibbs… Or, more accurately, his rules. Twelve I believe it is?" Abby grinned.

"Oh, well, I don't think he'll mind too much. I mean, ummm… When?" Her eyes were still a bit wide with disbelief and her mind wasn't working quite right, but she managed to squeeze out a sentence. A slow smile spread itself on Ziva's face. Abby busied herself with gathering her belongings together.

"Does lunchtime tomorrow work for you?" Abby thought for a second. Tim could wait another day or two or ten.

"Yep."

"Good. Now. Do you or do you not want me to walk you to your vehicle?"

"I'd like that."

"Good." Ziva paused, thinking herself too impersonal and distant. "I was planning to anyhow." As the two walked out of the building, Abby suppressed a smile.

This just might work.

I find that the only not straight pairing in NCIS that I like is this one. First shojo ai I've ever written too...
