James Potter had seen Lily Evans once before the two started school together. His aunt had taken him shopping in a muggle town just outside London. Lily was there with her family, her red hair twisted up in a bun as her bright yellow sun dress clashed lovely with her pink tinted skin; even from a block away James could tell it wasn't sunburn but her natural coloring. The older girl, with her too long neck and too pale skin, was dragging their parents into an ice cream shop while Lily was looking in the store of a pet shop at a group of kittens that were playfully trying to swipe at her finger through the glass.

It wasn't until her mother called her from the door of the ice cream shop that James understood why her skin made her look so beautiful. It was flawlessly white with a pink tint, just like the flowers she was named after. He watched as she spun around and ran into the shop that her family was in, her run hat flying off. James walked the few steps to where the wind had dropped it and picked it up. He glanced to his aunt, she was still at the fruit stand, and made his way into the shop the Evans family had gone into.

He slowly pushed the door open and peered at the girl standing with a frown as she looked at the ice cream choices. He bit his lip but slowly shuffled over to her and held out her hat. For a moment there was a look of surprise on her face as she reached up to touch her head and find her hat missing. Then she smiled brightly and took it from him. Before she could thank him her mother started to scold her about not pinning her hat on.

It was five minutes after the Evans had left that shop that James' aunt found him, staring at the ice cream. With a soft grin the woman bought him a cone.
