Steve glanced at Tony, the man's face unreadable. Then his gaze flickered over to Clint, who wore the same expression. The silence in the room made the tension all but tangible. He wasn't particularly enjoying what they were doing, in fact none of them were, but at Bruce and Natasha's 'insistence' they all agreed.

Steve glanced at his cards. His mind played a horrible trick on him. Each time he gazed on a red card, especially the Queen of Hearts he had in his possesion, he kept seeing the bloody ones Coulson had collected. He tried blinking the painful memory away. And he knew he wasn't going through this alone.

Clint had been stationed with the man, they both called SHIELD home. Clint had hardly talked to the man and it was quickly becoming one of Clint's biggest regrets. Worst of all, he didn't save the man, even though he was under Loki's spell and probably couldn't have if he tried. The only one who blamed Clint for that was himself.

Tony had given the American Flag to the 'cellist' alongside Fury. Steve had never seen him so somber. Out of all three of them, Tony had the worst guilt. He'd just started an actual relationship with Coulson and figuring out that he was probably one of the best men Tony could ever know. And now he was gone. It caused many sleepless nights for Tony. Steve would be wandering aimlessly around the mansion, trying to beat his insomnia, and sometimes he would find the other man working idly. He would make mistakes, but not bother to go back and fix them. And Tony's face that usually held a sarcastic grin would be stoic, almost completely emotionless. But even from across the room, as Steve knew better to disturb the man, he could see the pain in Tony's eyes.

And he himself wished that he could've signed the cards Coulson treasured so much.

"Steve? Fours?" Tony's lifeless voice echoed across the silent room.

Once more Steve looked at the cards. Once more the cards turned bloody. He shook his head to clear his vision. There weren't any.

"Go fish." Steve answered quietly.

Steve knew that one day he would be able to look at a deck of cards and not see the ones that belonged to the man who they all knew. That day would come for them all. But it wasn't today.
