He wonders why he hasn't noticed it before. Because now that he has, it seems so obvious he thinks he may have been going blind as well as deaf.

The signs were all there. All neatly laid out for him, waiting for him to clue the fuck in as to what was going on.

The quickening heartbeat,

The sweaty palms,

The inability to form coherent sentences whenever she stood within 2 yards of him,

The inability to think at all when she smiled.

Here he is, supposedly one of the best scientists in the country, and it has taken this to work out that he loves her.

Of course, because it's him, it's them, the timing sucks.

She is trapped on the other side of the glass; with a crazy (and a certificate to prove it) man holding a ceramic shard to her jugular.

The human body can be drained of blood in 8.6 seconds in the right vacuuming systems.

But he doesn't want to think about that.

His mind if flashing through all the incidences he could have, should have, said something to her.

It's depressing to realise just how many there are, so he tries not to think about them, either.

All of his attention is on her, his heart crying out in pain.

Her eyes meet his for a fraction of a second, and he sees her fear; she doesn't think she is going to get out of this alive.

It feels like he has been sucker-punched in the chest.

If, no,when she gets out of this, when the attendant gets the right key and opens the fucking door, he is going to take her into his arms, kiss her senseless, and never let her go.

Just as soon as she is free.

Which will be soon.

Any minute now.

Any second.

Right?
