Hiei, opened his ruby eyes from where he sat napping in his tree, outside Kurama's house. It was his usual spot where the short demon took naps and observed those around him. "What could have woken me up..?" Hiei muttered, half to himself and half aloud. He rarely woke from his sleep due to the movements of others. Only those with youkai could rouse the fire demon from his slumber. However, he had seen Kurama leave before he had begun his nap.
Hiei looked down his eyes narrowing at the sight below him. She was beautiful, with sea green hair, and crimson eyes, that mirrored his own sadness. "Yu..Yukina-chan.." Hiei whispered the name softly, his voice showing hints of compassion. Yukina was standing besides Kuwabara a soft smile on both of their lips. Yukina was even shorter than Hiei so their stance was a bit awkward, as Kuwabara kneeled down beside her. They both looked so happy. Hiei for the first time in his hundreds of years in the Makai and even on Earth, felt something he had never felt before. Regret and jealously. It wasn't fair how Kuwabara would be with Yukina and her own brother couldn't even... Tell her who he was.
No.. He was the forbidden child. The only male born into an island of female ice demons.. But no. He was male and a fire demon... He was shunned. Shunned from his own people... It just wasn't fair... Not that he'd ever admit that it bothered him-That wouldn't be a good way to react to anything... The Jagan master grimaced at the sight of Kuwabara hugging his sister before they continued their walk.
Hiei looked down at his sister, who was slowly walking away, he couldn't help but feel slightly happy for her-Her happiness was better than his... She was so much more gentle, delicate and caring than he could ever be. It would scar her too much, to know her brother was both a thief and a murder... And if anything, where to happen to him it would cause her pain. That was the last thing he wanted... He gave his ally and his sister one last look before shifting himself in the tree, so he couldn't see them...
After a few moments of Hiei's thoughts, he heard a familiar voice call his name. The demon looked down to see Kurama. The red haired demon smiled up at his friend. He knew what Hiei was thinking about.. He had seen Yukina and Kuwabara on his way home... "Hey, Hiei-san," The fox demon said jumping up onto the tree, beside his friend. "You know, you should tell Yukina-chan you're her broth"
"Don't say it."
"Hiei... Why not?"
".. Forget it Kurama. It doesn't matter."
"Yes it does." Kurama's voice sounded harsher than it had been intended but the demon didn't correct himself.
"It's none of your concern, Kurama..."
"You're my friend Hiei... It does matter.."
"Why don't you tell your mom who're a youkai?"
"To protect her.."
"Hn."
"But Hiei, that's different.. Yukina is a youkai! She's smarter than you give her credit for..."
Hiei didn't reply. "Kurama... I know she'd understand. But I can't." Not now. Not ever. I won't let the ones I love, hurt.."
'Then let me comfort you..' Kurama thought, looking at his friend, in sadness...

"It's none of your concern, Kurama..."
"You're my friend Hiei... It does matter.."
"Why don't you tell your mom who're a youkai?"
"To protect her.."
"Hn."
"But Hiei, that's different.. Yukina is a youkai! She's smarter than you give her credit for..."
Hiei didn't reply. "Kurama... I know she'd understand. But I can't." Not now. Not ever. I won't let the ones I love, hurt.."
