Sports Night
The Birthday Card
Casey watched Dan smile again as he again read the note inside the card his mother had sent him for his birthday. Not Dan's mother, his own mother. She was the kind of woman who never forgot anyone on their birthday or Christmas and the kind who always made sure Danny's holiday card said "Season's Greetings" instead of "Merry Christmas".
Dan stood the card up on the table next to the laptop and would periodically glance at it as he wrote up the Orioles game. Each time, he smiled.
"Danny, why haven't I ever met your family?"
Dan's smile vanished.
