Restless

Jack Frost broke through the chilly ice, gasping for breath with only his name echoing in his mind. He was Jack Frost, a winter sprite and a trickster. But where had that come from? How did he know that and nothing else? He turned around, carefully placing bare feet on frozen water; swiftly taking notice of the fact that things froze over when he touched them. He could turn anything into ice, he could frost over anything he desired. A laugh burst from him then, a laugh that caused the winter winds to pick him up and carry him off.

He drifted then, gradually coming to grips his new found skills and abilities. Making it snow as he flew past, covering the world with white. He felt joy, absolute joy as he flew above the clouds. Only, that joy didn't last as he landed and no one could see him. His words fell on deaf ears and people walked through him like he was mist, he was invisible to them.

The Man in the Moon gazed sorrowfully down at his newest creation; he had hoped and prayed that this one would be recognized. That this one wouldn't suffer. But all his wishes and wants were not enough to make people believe. So his newest sprite, Jack Frost, was left alone. Left alone to howl with his chilling winds as his icy heart broke. Left alone to slowly move through time, never changing like the ice at the poles. The Man in the Moon silently apologized to Jack, for it had taken more power then had foreseen to create the wintery trickster. He had poured so much emotion into the teen that he was drained; and all he could do was whisper, Your name is Jack Frost.

Jack stared at the sky, contemplating his existence and coming up with same questions as before. Why was he here? Why had the Moon created him? Who was the Moon? Maybe if he asked his questions loud enough, they would reach the Moon. Maybe, just maybe, he would get the answers he craved.
