Draco lay in bed. It was a simple thing to do, but he wasn't doing it simply. He lay in bed with his wife, Astoria. But not only was he with someone, he was thinking of someone.
Harry Potter. The boy who lived.
He'd lived up to that name, he's survived many times that he shouldn't have. He was a marvel by anyone's standards.
Draco absent mindedly traced his dark mark. His fingers traced the snake. Up and down his arm. His nails felt cold against his skin. He'd let them grow long again.
He sighed and sat up, careful not to wake Astoria. His nocturnal habits had kept her awake for many hours when she should have been asleep. He pulled on some boxers, a pair of trousers and a jumper.
What made him think of Potter at this late hour? He shook his head, he didn't know.
He walked out of his room and padded quietly down to the garden. A cool night air brushed his bare skin. The green of the garden looked black in the light of the moon.
It was a full moon tonight. He smiled, he should have known.
"Hello Potter." He said quietly.
"Malfoy." Harry said, his voice whispered in Draco's ear. "I wasn't sure if I'd wasted a trip tonight."
"You've not wasted a trip yet, Potter."
"But you came down clothed." Harry mocked.
"The children are old enough to walk now Potter. As are yours." He turned around and looked Harry in the eyes.
He reached out and brushed Harry's fringe out of his eyes. His thumb traced Harry's scar.
"Potter." Draco whispered. "Potter… Our families-"
He was cut off as Harry kissed him. Draco's heart sped up, his fingers clenched into fists and his lips parted. Harry's tongue slid into Draco's mouth. Draco tasted Harry and wanted more.
Astoria.
He pulled back.
"Potter… I can't… We can't…"
"Malfoy." Harry whispered, clutching at Draco's hands. "Please…"
"Potter…" Draco said, his voice broke and he swallowed a sob. "We can't keep… I can't… The…"
Harry raised his fingers to Draco's face, they came away wet.
"I know." Harry whispered, he felt his heart brake. "I love you."
Draco bowed his head. He couldn't say the words through his tears. Harry raised Draco's head and kissed his lips softly.
"Always have, Draco." He pushed Draco's sleeve up and traced the Dark Mark, as Draco himself had done minutes ago. "Always will."
Harry stepped back, he looked at Draco in the moonlight. His face was wet with tears too.
"Potter. I - I never wanted… I -"
"I know, Malfoy." Harry said. "I know."
"I love you." Draco whispered.
"I know." Harry smiled.
He disappeared. Draco stumbled forwards and fell to his knees. He buried his face in his hands and wept. He stayed, knelt on the grass, until the sun rose.
"Potter, you bastard. I love you, but we couldn't have made this work." He sighed. "But I do love you. I always will."
