Disclaimer: I own nothing

Summary: Its Christmas time and a young Sam asks his brother a question.

A/N: Christmas Day and here I am writing a story I hope you all like it and have a wonderful Christmas! This is my first Supernatural Fanfiction so please me nice!

Note: temperatures are all in Fahrenheit

Do you miss him?

"Hey Dean?" Sam asked not looking away from the glow of the television.

The two boys were piled under layers of blankets on a single bed in a dingy motel room. It was 13° out and the heater couldn't seem to warm the room past 40°. Sam, eleven though he was, was curled next to his big brother who had an arm wrapped around his shoulders. Outside the snow was softly falling and the colored lights from nearby houses shown through the gap in the curtains.

"Hmm?" Dean said as the Grinch plotted the best way to ruin Christmas.

Sam was silent for a moment, long enough that Dean turned to look at his little brother with a slight frown. "Sammy?" he asked with a nudge.

"Do you miss Dad?" The question startled Dean and he responded without thought

"Of course I do!"

Dean couldn't see his brothers face due to the darkness of the room and the angle he was at, but he could tell his brother was upset from the tightness of his shoulders.

"Sam…" He started to ask but the younger boy beat him to it.

"I don't."

Dean was shocked and sat staring at his brother's form lost for words.

"I know that's horrible." Sam said turning himself further away from his brother "But all I can think is that if he was here he would be yelling or making us drive somewhere else."

Dean said nothing, just watched the Grinch climb down the chimney not really seeing it. Then he heard Sam give a soft sniff and grimaced pulling his little brother closer.

The rest of the night neither spoke.

John Winchester came back the next day and told the boys to pack up so they could leave. They did, neither complaining.

For once Dean sat in the backseat with his little brother letting Sam use him as a pillow while he slept and watching the snow fall outside. He found himself wishing that his Dad had not come home that morning so he had Sam could have continued to watch the stupid Christmas movies.

And then he realized that he hadn't missed his father either.

End

So I could not decide if this story took place on Christmas Eve or Christmas day so that it all up to you interpretation.

Also don't get the wrong impression Dean and Sam love their father very much and John loves them, they just have a bit of a disconnect.

I hope you liked this story! Happy Holidays everyone! Merry Christmas!
