The wet flap of the leather overcoat caught his attention. The shimmer of burnished steel shoulder pads, copper edged piping, and midnight suede, so common in their unit as to be forgettable (he had his own hanging forgotten in his wardrobe after all), but on him…. Perhaps he was held fast by the very juxtaposition of such worldly baseness edging out the heavenly authority of the elaborate chakra, the warm glow of honeyed skin enchantingly ephemeral and intrinsically offset above the jaunty smile and mischievous eyes. The brightness of his flesh drew the eye magnetically to the inky dragon across his chest, its body spiked and curving as though it was writhing in hell's fire. Finally yanking his gaze away from that tempting sweep and plateau of well toned chest they skipped across cocky lips mouthing an unlit cigarette, over high cheek bones and a Roman nose to fall heart first in glowing burgundy eyes.

He released the breath he didn't realize had been pent so forcefully behind his teeth with an explosiveness that barely constrained the curse tumbling around inside him and knew that from that moment on his life, heart and soul would be bound to the man who knelt by his side and gently removed book after scroll after book from his personal fortress. He chuckled softly as the other pushed his fallen glasses back up the bridge of his nose.

"Name's Kenren, guess I'll be taking care of you for a while, huh?"

"Tenpou," he cracked a smile, a real one for the first time in a long time, "Yes. Yes, I guess so."
