AN: This is very brief, and I wrote it for my sister who asked for a Emily/Alison oneshot, so I didn't have any timeframe in mind when writing.
As Emily's fingers trace over the picture of Ali, she thinks back to a time when she had actually hoped that, one day, they could be together.
"What about this?" Alison is holding a short blue dress up.
Emily sighs and smiles. Ali would look good in anything. And she knows it.
"You'd look great in that, Ali."
Alison rolls her eyes. It's her trademark.
"I know," She overemphasizes the words, "but do you like it?"
"Of course." Ali could wear a burlap sack and Emily would still love the way it looked on her.
"Good." Ali smiles and takes one last look at the dress before putting it back in her closet.
Alison flits over to Emily's perch on the bed and sits down. Emily loves the way Ali walks. It's as if she's sashaying with every motion.
"Emily, do you know why I always ask your opinion?"
"Why's that, Ali?" Emily always assumed Ali liked the ego boost. And Emily didn't mind giving it to her.
"Because I know you'd never lie to me." Alison is looking at her intently now, Emily wants to look away but can't. She doesn't understand why Ali would think this though. She's never been an entirely truthful person, always hiding a part of herself from her family and friends…
Emily is drawn away from her thoughts when she realizes Ali is leaning closer to her. She involuntarily focuses on Ali's lips now. She has a bright pink lip gloss on, Emily can see it glistening where the sunlight from the window hits her lips.
Emily barely registers what is happening as Ali's soft lips brush against her own. This has happened too many times to count in her dreams that Emily can barely believe it is real.
It's a brief kiss, but it is more than enough for Emily.
She throws the picture aside in disgust. Alison had just been playing her. She knows it. Besides, Ali kept too many secrets for anything genuine to exist between them.
