The Final Fall of Rufus Shinra

Diamond Weapon has unleashed her fury on Midgar! Although Scarlet and the Sister Ray seemed to have subdued the giant, nothing comes without a price. Rufus appeared rather calm and comfortable, when a wheezing Palmer ran up to his office.

"President, we need to get out of here, Weapon's shots are still reaching Midgar," the obese man uttered. Yet Rufus didn't care for the world. He waved his hand to the door. Bewildered, Palmer, gave a look as if to say, the heck with you, and the fat man bolted out the door. Palmer could be heard tumbling down the steps on his way to hide.

Palmer was speeding out of the building. Heidegger and Scarlet were preparing the Proud Clod weapons and defense. Reeve was locked away in a basement, imprisoned, but safe. Hojo was at the Sister Ray's deck musing his intentions to contact Sephiroth. So while all other officers were active, Rufus, however just sat in his office and reflected. Instead of panicking, he chose a passive behavior.

There's no doubt, the Rufus knew it was coming. Glass had shattered on the other floors of the Shinra building. It was only going to be time before the hot burning orbs of hellfire hit the Presidents officer. Back on his desk, the radio was buzzing, it was the Turks, offering to give him a ride off the roof top. Rufus gazed at his radio to call for a helicopter.why bother, he thought. Without will, he dropped his radio on to the group, letting it shatter to pieces.

Rufus had isolated himself, giving up all hope. For what hope was there to be had? He failed to stop Meteor and Sephiroth. Cloud and his allies were invading the city, surely to finish off Shinra. As if Shinra was not already finished.the people had no more faith in Rufus. He had too many failures.most of which he can credit Cloud for. Ft. Condor, Rocket Town, Cosmo Canyon, Wutai and Corel were finalizing their Rebellion Plans and declared their intentions to cut off ties with Shinra.

He thought very briefly, about what his life would have been like if things were different. What would it be like if he had defeat Cloud and his allies before all of this got out of hand. Would that have prevented Sephiroth's attack with meteor. What if the rocket fired would have blown up the evil space meteor? Shinra's glory would have risen, and Rufus would have been a savior. But no, instead he was viewed as a evil tyrant, and the company, a failure.

Shinra itself, was falling apart from the inside. Heidegger had emerged as the power hungry beast he always was. With Scarlet at his side to arm him, who could stop him. They locked away Reeve, their only opposition. Palmer of course was running for his life, afraid of anything just about. He had failed not only in his challenges, but to keep control of his own company.

Yet among all this tragedy, Rufus remained strong. If there's one thing Rufus hadn't lost, it was his mind-set. He wasn't going to run away this time. If Shinra is too fall, then the President is to fall with it. Rufus was not going to fail by fleeing, instead he was ready to face death, perhaps a quality that no other character in the FF, minus Vincent, had in them.

The fire balls approached. Rufus glared out his lavish office windows, awaiting them as if with anticipation. He tightened his muscles, and bent his eyebrows. This was a challenge he was going to meet on face-to-face. The approaching fire ball grew bigger and bigger.

The fire ball broke through and the office glass shattered. It was only a matter of time now. Yet in this micro-unit of time, Rufus' life flashed before him. All the wonderful successes and disappointing failures had passed. It was time to meet his destiny.

The fire ball finally collided with Rufus head on. Even to his own life's end, Rufus hadn't flinched one bit.
