Noble Sir Pouncival

Sir POUNCIVAL did take his sword,

His sword noble Sir Pouncival took.

A long carving-knife was the sword of the Cat.

The black, white, and brown Jellicle Cat.

.

For his lady-love ELECTRA,

Did Sir Pouncival take up arms.

Against the cunning fiend, MACAVITY,

He vowed to fight for the Lady Electra.

.

Macavity was a magic Cat,

A Cat who could move objects with thought.

Sir Pouncival was a knockabout Cat,

A Cat who cared for naught.

.

With his carving-knife by his side,

Sir Pouncival stormed the sewers.

The lair of the fiend in the sewers

Was entered by the bold Cat.

.

Slinking past the guards of the lair,

Sir Pouncival searched for Electra.

At last as the captive of GRIDDLEBONE

The brave Jellicle found his love.

.

He did battle with Lady Griddlebone,

And with her mate, Macavity.

He was injured, but fought on still,

Unwilling to yield to the foul Cats.

.

The MUNGOJERRIE did appear,

With a bagful of trinkets and jewels.

He distracted Macavity just long enough,

For the knight and his love to vanish.

.

When Sir Pouncival returned to the Junkyard

Bearing with him the Lady Electra,

Her mother, TANTOMILE, congratulated him.

As did her uncle, CORICOPAT.

.

At the next Jellicle Ball, Pouncival was wed to Electra,

And they lived on happily, and without much strife.

Yet now and again, Macavity would attempt revenge,

And then Sir Pouncival would take up his knife.

I feel silly writing a poem about a character from a play based on a book of poems, but I had fun writing it. I know that there is no structure or anything, but I don't particularly care.

I don't think that this has anything to do with my 'Tales From the Russell Hotel' world, but keep it in mind just in case Pouncival and Electra end up as mates in there.
