Chapter I

The Start of a Long Journey

Once know as the jewel of the North, the city of Neverwinter was badly damaged when nearby Mount Hotenow erupted about fifty years ago. Now, the city of skilled Hands works furiously to rebuild itself. Neverwinter's reconstruction is far from complete, however. Some of it's outer walls still lie in ruin, and several of its neighborhoods remains abandoned. Even so, the great chasm to the Underdark the opened within in the city has been magically sealed, and the achievement bodes well for Neverwinter's future. Dagult Neverember is the Lord Protector of Neverwinter, ruling in the absence of a true heir to Neverwinter's crown. At present, no legitimate heirs are known to exist, and many believe that the royal line is dead. Lord Neverember is taking no chances, though. He quietly pays off or disposes of anyone who claims to be a member of the Alagondar bloodline. Neverwinter is a member of the Lord's Alliance, and Neverember supports the efforts of the organization to spread civilization throughout the North and hires adventurers to help protect the city and it's interests. Still, his main concern is to rebuild Neverwinter and its economy while keeping a tight hold on the reins of power. The Order of the Gauntlet has a strong presence in Neverwinter; most of its resident members are clerics and knights of Helm, Torm, and Tyr, along with their acolytes and squires. Neverwinter woods, the forest east of the grand city seems to have a magical quality about it, or at least an air of mystical secrecy. Neverwinter wood holds countless ruins and more than a few crumbling castles. The always warm Neverwinter river, which flows out of the wood, has its source deep below Mount Hotenow, an active volcano in the northern reaches of the forest.

Within the temple of Torm a squat Dwarf in a set of rugged chain mail, short arbun hair and his is beard neatly braided three times is on one knee praying, when a red scaled lizard in the same kind of armor with a two handed sword on his back walks in and speaks to the Dwarf. "Come on Sigmul, how long can one man pray for." Sigmul opens one eye and quietly responds to the red lizard. "Argon... shut up." Argon turns around while waving at his friend, "Fine, if you need me I'll be at the Moonstone Mask grabbing a drink." Argon leaves Sigmul to pray to his god he never understood the concept of praying. All Argon needed was his great-sword and his wits. In the Inn Argon heads to the inn keeper and orders pitcher of ale and slams two silver pieces on the table, from there he can see people who stick out like a sore thumb; a human one dressed in full plate mail a young looking face and short black hair looks to be a knight, and the other a tall elf, blond hair in robes. They take their sets and order their things, nothing that Argon needed to be concerned about. A few minuets from then a Goliath shows up, with his massive height he was not able to fit through the door way without crouching. The Goliath heads next to the knight and elf and tires to pick a fight with them by saying all kinds of thing like weak knight, doesn't have the stomach for a real right. Unfortunately it worked and the knight was rather fast to deliver the first blow, the Goliath stumbles back and pounces on the small man. Argon scoffs as his sips his ale from the pitcher "Some Knight." The citizens run out of the inn and scrambling to the streets to alert the guards. Argon ignores the three as they fought as the Goliath gets pushed back into Argon and forces him to spill his pitcher. This annoys the hell out of him and decides to get in on the action, roaring loudly and throw a fierce right hook at the massive man. Hearing the commotion out in the streets Sigmul checks outside and sees that everyone is running from the inn and immediately says under his breath and sighing "Argon." Back in the inn Argon slams the massive man into a couple of tables and throws him out the window, when Sigmul finally arrives. Sigmul narrowly dodges the man as he was throw throw the window and shards of glass litter the ground around them. " ARGON WHAT IN THE NINE HELLS, YOU WERE GONE ONLY FOR 10 MINIUETS." Argon shrugs and replies back to Sigmul nonchalantly "He spilled my ale." Sigmul just face palms knowing that this would never change. Just then two guards arrive to see the unconscious massive man and the four standing in the trashed inn. The first guard thanks them "Well, I thank you citizens in taking care of this matter, taking down a Goliath is no small feat." As the second one holds out a rolled up piece of parchment with the seal of the Lord's Alliance, the second guard stands at attention and delivers it to Sigmul. "On orders from Lord Dagult Neverember, this letter instructs you to complete your mission with due haste." Sigmul points to the Order of the Gauntlet badge on his armor, a clenched blue gauntlet and responds to the guards "See this badge, means I Serve the Gauntlet not the Lord's Alliance." The knight and elf start coming out of the tavern, the elf grumbling something in Elvish which was directed towards the knight. The Knight grabs the letter from the guard and tells both Sigmul and the guard that they're do it. Sigmul, Argon and the Elf all raise an eyebrow and looks at him, Sigmul was the only one to speak to him "Excuse me, and you are?" The knight laughs and responds to Sigmul in a condescending tone of voice, "I am sir Rolan Galahad, a ranking member of the Order of the Gauntlet , and it is our duty to serve Neverwinter and it's Lord." The elf next to him just laughs at Rolan as Sigmul looks up at him an annoyed look on his face. "Yea never heard of you, and what do you mean Our duty your the knight." Argon just snatches the letter out of Rolan's hands and opens it reading.

"An infestation of Undead are roaming around Neverwinter Woods, the Lord's Alliance has tasked you to eliminate the foul creatures and find the source of the desecration of the corpses. You will be compensated handsomely.

You're Lord and Protector Dagult Neverember.

Argon hands the letter back to the guards "We'll do it, I have business in the woods anyways might as well get paid for it." The elf just laughs at them think their a bunch of suckers for the Lord's Alliance when Rolan speaks up. "So will Eramil and I." Hearing this Eramil stops laughing immediately and replies back to Rolan "Care to repeat that." replying back with anger behind his words. Sigmul shrugs and accepts the contract as well "Undead problems, sure why not sounds easy enough." The guards thank the four and walk off to inform Neverember of his hirelings. The sun was just beginning to set as twilight was beginning to rise, making their way to the eastern gate Rolan, Eramil, Argon and Sigmul saddle up their horses and begging to ride off. Rolan rides next to Sigmul "So Sigmul an reason why you company with a Dragonborn?"Argon snares at Rolan and punches his plate armor with such force that it nearly knocks Rolan off. Sigmul just continues to ride ahead answering Rolan's question. "Why not, Argon's been a good friend of mine for a long time." As darkness falls the trail up ahead becomes black, unable to see anything more than five feet ahead of them. Sigmul beckons everyone to stop as he rears his horse forcing both it's front legs to rise. Sigmul dismounts his horse and ties it up to a near by tree as everyone dismounts. Rolan starts to order Argon around like a slave, but Argon was having not if it and smacks Rolan up side his helmet knocking his head around a bit.

"I slept through another Math class yet again..." A apricot haired girl said with almost zero energy. "Sakura, you should try staying up sometime." A black haired girl said seriously, but still kept her serene grace in check. "I know Tomoyo, but the teacher is sooo boring..." It is Friday afternoon in Tomoeda, the summer breeze blowing around quite gently. The sun enveloped the city with its orange rays. Sakura Avalon is going home after another day in middle school went by. Alongside her was her best friend, Tomoyo Talyor. Also with them was a brown haired boy. "Don't worry about it too much. I know you won't sleep when I'm tutoring you in Math." the boy said while petting Sakura's head. "Hee hee... Thanks Li." said a blushing Sakura. "Aw..I still can't get over how cute you two are together." Tomoyo said, looking at the couple with admiration. "It's not like that..." Sakura said, but she did not put much effort into it. It is true. She and Li are a couple now, ever since that day they confessed their feelings of true love towards each other. There is no denying it, even if Tory is against it. "Hey, you guys," Sakura suddenly said. "I've been having a strange dream."

Realm Faerûn

Everyone wakes up from their long sleep, Eramil was the first to wake. Opening his eyes, for eight hours sun rise has not appeared and was still black, barley able to see five feet ahead of one's self. Eramil wakes everyone up, first Sigmul then Argon and then Rolan. "I sense an unholy presence nearby, something dark." Rolan replies too pulling unsheathing his sword and picking up his shield taking point. "I sense it too." A thick layer of fog emerges around everyone's feet, and a small amount of light from the moon revels a ruined village. The sounds of animals grow silent, and a eerie sound of nothing fills the area. Out in the distance Rolan can see Undead slowly making their way towards him.

Tomoeda

Tomoeda grows silent and dark unable to see anything, Sakura, Tomoyo, Li grow still, and within seconds the darkness grows weaker. They find them self's in the middle of the ruined village surround by Undead. Suddenly a brilliant ray of light sears a zombie of golden radiance. Sparkles of light lingers around it, illuminating a small area around it. There Rolan notices three children standing in the center of Undead, he brings his shield in front of him and his sword on top of his shield and charges forward knocking down and pricing their rotting flesh. Rolan stands next to the three children with his sword and shield in each hand and his armor all bulky. Rolan sheaths his sword and lends out his hand to assist them. "You three shouldn't be here." Frightened by what just happened, being transported to this land, surrounded by Undead, and a man in bulky armor lending his hand out Sakura stutters in trying to find words. "Wh.. where, are, we?" Rolan quickly replies back to the girl, as he smashes a skeleton with his shield, as it raised it's mace. "There is no time for questions..." Rolan was cut off, as Argon let out a loud roar and breathed fire all over the remaining Undead incinerating them to dust and ashes. Rolan slowly turns his head to face Argon, and with a blank stair. "Can you keep it down for two seconds Argon." Turning his head back. "I am a Paladin warrior of good and justice , you can trust me." Argon speaks up interrupting Rolan "Yea, trust the guy that thinks Dragonborn's should be slaves to humans." Argon says sheathing his great-sword on his back while walking up next to Rolan and the three children. Stairs down at them. "Names Argon Helfire, so where you you three hail, never seen that attire before."A brown hair boy takes a single step forward announcing his mane, hiding the fear behind his words. I am Li. Argon stared into his eyes, and saw the fear in the boys eyes. "There is no need to fear me, unless you piss me off them I suggest you run as fast as you can." Sigmul walks towards the children meeting his height, his war-hammer hanging from his belt. "I am Sigmul O'Connell." A black haired girl remains still as she gives her name to the three standing in front of her. "I'm Tomoyo Talyor." Eramil wonders the area not caring about the children searches for anything that he can steal. Eramil runs into a stuck tavern door, Eramil pushes but to no avail he couldn't open it. Eramil singles Argon over. Argon heads over and bashes the door open.
