I woke up quickly, gasping. I hadn't had a dream about Nick in years. I rubbed the hair from my face and let out a sigh. My bedroom was boring, a bed and a dresser sat in it. A large bay window sat across from the bed. My long hair fell along my shoulders and I pulled it up into a bun.

I climbed out of the bed and pulled on my robe. Walking out of my bedroom I stood outside of the door next to my bedroom. I cracked it open and peered in on my daughter, sleeping quietly. I closed the door and went downstairs.

The house I lived in was a small chalet located ut a ways out of Vegas. I hated Vegas but I grew up there and wanted to stay local to my family. I grabbed water and poured it in the coffee pot pushing 'start.' I walked outside and grabbed the mail, noticing an ambulance sitting outside my neighbor, from across the way's house. I typed in the numbers on the security system in my house and went over to the small crowd forming.

"What happened?" I asked George, the neighbor who was next to me.

"Murder." He whispered.

"What!" I gasped and covered my lips. A murder?! We hadn't had any of those even near us. I looked over at the house as the police taped it up. Two black SUV's pulled up with "CSI" written on them. I felt my heart skip a beat as I wished that Nick was there.

"Please stand back everyone. This is an active crime scene." A gentleman walked out of the SUV and proceeded to wave us backwards. I stepped back with everyone else and watched as three more people got out of the SUV. Two women, one with blonde hair and one with a brunette. The last person was a man and after a second I noticed who it was.

"Hello everyone. My name is Nick Stokes and I work with the Crime Lab. I would appreciate it if I could take your statements." He passed over me and went into the house. I turned and looked at George and he made a face.

"Something wrong?" He questioned.

"No. I need to get my daughter. Can you tell them where I am if they need me?" He smiled and I left, heading back to the house. I opened the door and pushed the buttons, undoing the security system but it blared 'Error.' I took a few steps toward the kitchen and noticed blood on the floor. My heart stopped and my lungs couldn't breathe. I heard a knock on the door but ignored it, venturing further into the house. The knock was louder but I still ignored it, following the blood trail.

It tapered off for a minute and then a puddle showed up. I stood in the doorway, following the trail with my eyes. When my eyes settled on the body, laying crumpled in a heap I knew who i was. A scream tore from my throat and as I was about to step forward to see my daughter, laying in a bloody mess, someone's arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me back.

"We got another one. Call DB!" The person yelled. Tears streamed from my eyes, my body began to grow cold and I couldn't help but fall limp in the person's arms. Blackness rolled around me and I fell into unconsciousness.

I awoke, finding myself in a hospital bed. IV's were stuck into my arm and handcuffs were on my right wrist. I wiggled my hand and suddenly the memories filtered through my mind. My daughter, laying there lifeless. My eyes began to water, the noises of a knock on the door interrupted me.

"Hey." I heard a soft voice and looked up to see Nick. "How are you doing Amelie?"

"Nick?" I questioned and watched as he closed the door behind him and sat down on the bed beside me. He took my hand and wrapped his own in it.

"What happened?" He brushed a stray hair from my face.
