April's Fool
Teyla smiled and let the wind blow through her hair. Her slim fingers grasped the railing of the balcony she was standing on and her skirt blew with the wind. The sun was just beginning to peak over the horizon, and beautiful pinks, reds and purples splashed across the sky.
"Teyla."
Her eyes opening, she turned to the side a little to see John Sheppard smirking at her. He was leaning against the wall beside the door of the balcony, his hands in his pockets and his green eyes smiling.
"Yes, Colonel Sheppard?"
"John. Call me John; we're off the clock."
"Very well, John."
Silence fell between them as he walked over and joined her. They both stared into the sea below as the sun reflected off of the water. The colored rays that swam across the salty air were beautiful.
"John, what is April Fool's Day?" Teyla asked slowly, not making eye contact with him as he said,
"Well, on Earth, it's a day where people can get away with playing jokes on others. It's fun."
"I see ... "
Silence again fell as they felt no need for words.
"Hey, didn't you say you wanted to meet me here?" John asked slowly, watching as the birds flew over-head.
"No, I thought you requested to meet me here," she said, reaching to where the single, red rose lie on the railing. It lost a few petals as she picked it up. They slowly floated down into the sea below, enveloped by the crashing waves. Teyla pressed the rose into his hand. "That came with the note that I received."
John looked down at the rose in his hand. It was a beautiful rose, unlike any of the ones he'd ever seen on the mainland or any other planets they had visited.
"I didn't send it. I don't even know where this flower came from."
"If you didn't send it, then who did, and why did they use your name?" she questioned, her bare feet shifting on the ground as she turned around to catch his gaze. He found himself unable to respond right away as he stared into her eyes.
"Someone probably meant it as an April Fool's joke."
"I see."
She was still staring into his eyes as he reached his hand up. His fingers danced over her cheek as he slowly leaned closer to her. Her heart was beating fast in her chest as his soft lips met her own. It was unlike anything she'd felt before. Unlike the last time he'd kissed her. He was in control of his actions this time, and as his lips caressed her own, she smiled.
When he pulled back, he tucked the rose behind her ear, whispering, "I've been meaning to do that for a while now."
Teyla just nodded, the smile still on her face. She leaned up and kissed him gently again to let him know that he had done nothing wrong.
"If this was indeed an April Fool's joke, then ... "
She and John turned back toward the sea as the sun peaked over the horizon. The colors that were cast across the sky intensified, bathing their skin in the light.
"... the we are April's Fool."
Fluff. Meh. What did you think? I'm slightly hopeless when it comes to romance. I can't help it.
