"Always meant to be"

Her beauty is beyond compare

with long wavy locks of dirty blonde hair.

Her eyes glisten of emerald green.

Her giggles ring through the room

like a harp, sending shivers down his spine.

her smile was not something anybody saw often,

but when her lips turned up, he swore she

shone like the sun.

Her name was Meredith.

***

His intoxicating bright blue eyes always

made butterflies dance in her tummy.

His dark wavy hair always made her

want to reach out and touch it.

The way his eyes crinkled up when he smiled

always made her want to smile too.

The way that he tilted his head and gave a

comforting smile, could make

her knees buckle beneath her.

His name was Derek.

***

He loved her tiny ineffectual wrists,

he loved the way her nostrils flared

when she got angry.

He loved the smell of lavender from

conditioner that wafted towards them whenever

they got close.

***

She loved that He always knew

how to make her feel better.

She loved how he could make her smile,

no matter how big the problem was.

She loved that he stuck by her

through everything.

***

She tried to avoid him, telling him

whatever they had was unprofessional.

For he was an attending, she was an intern,

nothing could ever happen.

But he wasn't going to let go that easily.

***

She avoided the elevator, for when he was there,

he'd stop and stare.

She glared and called him a fool but she found it

sweet that he cared.

She never planned for the future, her plans

always deceived her.

But she could see herself with him, years from now,

married with a house and kids.

With her McDreamy there every night

to come home to.

***

His wife arrived one rainy night,

dressed head-to-toe in Prada. She clicked

down the halls like a ticking time bomb, on

high heeled shoes.

He never told her he was married,

He planned to that night at dinner.

Her hair was long and auburn,

her eyes an evil blue. Her name was Addison.

***

She was hard to hate, and although

Meredith tried, She couldn't help but like

this high-heeled beauty, though she had

crushed Mer's hopes and dreams.

***

When Derek explained that they were separated,

Mer couldn't help but smile,

Her McDreamy was still hers,

at least for a while.

***

The divorce papers were signed that afternoon,

somehow Mer felt guilty.

Like it was her fault their marriage had fallen apart,

though Derek assured her otherwise.

He whisked her away to his trailer,

where they lived for forever and a day.

They were always meant to be.
