Skating - What Sonic hopes would be a fun day skating turned into so much more…

{Sonic's POV}

My friends and I were heading skating today. Pretty much everyone was going except for Cream. It was a couples' skate so I was getting a bit nervous. Obviously Amy would try making a move today.

As I walked into the rink I was getting more nervous. Who was I going to skate with? I sure didn't want to go with Amy.

Everyone else was there already. Tails, Amy, Shadow, Rouge, Knuckles, Silver, and Mephiles were standing in a group.

"Hey, guys!" I greeted, walking up with a bright smile.

Everyone turned around and smiled too. "Hi!"

"So since everyone's here," Rouge began, "we can get started. Does everyone have a partner?"

There were only two couples at first. Knuckles stood beside Rouge, and Silver was already standing beside Mephiles.

I just stood there blankly. I could see Amy starting towards me, and I backed away a step. Nonononono!

Shadow stepped in front of her, facing me. "Wanna skate, Faker?" He held out a hand and subtly smiled.

"Sure…" I breathed a sigh of relief that I didn't have to skate with Amy. "Thanks for saving me." I glanced backwards at Amy, who looked furious.

I look Shadow's hand with a smile and waited for everyone to pair up. Tails looked as if he was trying to convince Amy to skate with him. Everyone else looked all lovey dovey. Rouge and Knuckles were kissing, so I tried not to look.

Shadow leaned in close to my ear and whispered, "I have to tell you something."

Rouge finally pushed Knuckles away with a heavy blush on her face. "Okay! So let's go."

And everyone set off for the ice. Shadow and I stayed behind, because apparently Shadow had to tell me something.

"I'm all ears," I murmured at last. I never thought I'd be saying this, but Shadow was… quite attractive… I sure wouldn't mind skating with him. Wait, I'm not gay! …Am I?

Shadow smiled again and blushed very slightly. I realized now I was blushing too. And I also realized Shadow was super cute when he blushed.

"Sonic… I really don't know… I've been having these feelings whenever I'm around you… it's really weird, and… sometimes I have dreams about you." He looked really embarrassed now.

I smiled too and blushed more. "I have too. I asked Amy what it was, and she said it was… love…"

"So then I love you, I guess," the dark hedgie admitted. "That sounds right. Maria told me about that once."

"I love you too, Shads…" I whispered back, pulling him into a hug. "I'd be happy to skate with you."

"Then why don't we go?" Shadow took my hand, and we started off for the ice.

Skating was awesome. I wasn't very good at it, so Shadow gave me some tips and helped me out.

Panting, I slowed to a halt, still clinging to Shadow's arm. "Wow… thanks for the help," I breathed, gazing into his beautiful blood-red eyes.

"It's nothing," he murmured back.

And we kissed for the first time. It was lovely to say the least. It was warm and intimate, exactly as I expected. When we pulled away I was actually disappointed.

I couldn't help but blush and smile. "We should come to more of these couples' skates," I whispered.
