Death is Everywhere

He owed a debt. I was doing the right thing. But rather than just taking it like he has said he would, he decides weasel around it and steal the heart. That wretched thing has caused more problems than it solved. I was so stupid that day...

The day was hot, and anything sensible was trying to avoid the sizzling sun. But this... man, I suppose you could call him, was anything but hot. A shiver ran through him; but this was not from the weather.

Of course, Davy Jones had never felt this sort of shiver before, because he was never about to die.

Seagulls and short-winged albatrosses flew across the sky, oblivious to the fact that soon they'd be shot down from the sky by stray cannon fire, or a lightning bolt, killed by something they had absolutely nothing to do with.

A small bird in particular caught the Sea Devil's eye, while his Napoleon-statured oppressor and noble pirate spoke to each other, probably about himself. His face twisted into a look of confusion; these birds were not sea birds, they flocked around land.

A ripple from the water distracted Davy Jones from the oddity, and he turned to find the cause of chaos in the calm waters. A water snake? Water snakes lived in swamps and rivers, not the ocean, not his territory.

The sparrow caught sight of his next meal and dove for the snake. The snake tried to fight back, but it was a futile effort, as the sparrow had both the advantage of surprise and aerial attacks. In mere seconds, the tidepool was stained with the snake's blood.

The Sea Devil stared at the dead snake and the sparrow, the latter trying to carry its food that was much too heavy back to its nest.

All he could do was blink. The sparrow, a possible sign from Heaven that the seas would soon be much safer. The snake, the reincarnation of Lucifer himself. And of course, no explanation was needed for the water snake.

The Sea Devil couldn't move. Is it possible there is a God? What has he ever done for me? Other than sick a whore upon me, bent on causing me ill-will.

He shakes his head, looking somewhat silly as he's having a conversation with himself in his head. Bah! Out on the sea, there's no such thing as a higher power. I am that higher power. 'Tis a mere coincidence, is all. A hungry bird showing the serpent his rightful place on the food chain... nothing more, nothing less.

Unless...

"You be the curr that led these wolves to our door?"

Sadly, I don't own PotC or Davy. Because if I did, Davy and I would be on the beach, and Jack and Will would be our slaves, and we'd be playing darts with Calypso and Beckett as targets :D
I've decided that I'm not going to post anymore of A Debt to Pay until I get my own laptop, just because I don't want to stop mid-way through an idea. However, I will be writing a little throughout the summer. Mostly one shots like this, but I'll probably throw in a chapter or two of ADP.
We were talking about Of Mice and Men and the symbolism through the first chapter. And this somehow popped into my head *shrugs*
And somehow, listening to Trashed and Scattered by Avenged Sevenfold helped a lot 0.o
On a brighter side, three days left until OST comes out into theaters. Who's going? :D
