When I tried to live without you,

I felt death scourging heart,

And lining the pits of my soul with hate.

So I stood still and watched,

The fires as they ravaged the calm;

Claiming the innocence of pain,

And replacing with it cold immunity.

Who can stand here today and say,

"I have never felt such things!"

When, gazed at closely, seen are the flames

As they fade to immunity and cold…

Unbidden come the wars of love;

That through the strife is seen,

Such beauty that warms the cold…

Soon shall the flame burn once more.
