through the veil
By SMYGO4EVA

Whenever Serenity had cried as a child, her mother hushed her, to keep her sobbing down even when she was taken away from her big brother.

When she would laugh, she again was silenced, to keep the meaning of her name intact.

Serenity.

Peace.

Quiet.

Her name meant to keep quiet.

To be quiet.

Be still.

Behave.

Don't disgrace your own family.

Never let anyone in.

That was where her silence had to be broken.

She wanted to see the world, whereas Joey, her dear brother, was out there and both their parents let him travel, and she was to stay where she supposedly belonged.

Isolated.

Quiet.

Still.

Alone.

It wasn't fair...

It wasn't fair...

It was not fair...

The only friend she had was the darkness, the cold, twisted, damned darkness

The darkness spoke with a low, rough voice, its volume exceeding the space.

"Be silent no more..."

She is hesitant.

She wants her voice.

To be heard.

To be valued.

With it, that darkness, she would be recognized.

Not be another face in the crowd.

"Come with me, my dear..."

She rings out her hand.

Ice and sapphires, spinning gold and ivory all together.

The darkness reached out a golden-tanned hand, past her face, and stroked her auburn hair

Despair deepened its fangs into her.

The yearning for another's hand.

She placed her hand upon that one hand, belonging to the demon in front of her just then.

deeper, darker, stronger...

light, decimating, disappearing...

through the veil...

She walked into the darkness, with him, his poisoned hand still upon her face.

To be known, to be silent no more...

That was her wish.

"Goodbye, little mouse..."
