He hated the bookstore with a passion. He had no ill will to books mind you , despite the blunt truma he's received from them. He dispised them because they stole the attention of his Maka. Stepping through the doors of this vile building she would vanish for hours into the forest of bookshelves. He was use to this by now. He had developed his own habit of simply finding a seat in the back and waiting.
Approaching his normal spot he froze in surprise. His seat was taken by a man he could only describe as "cool". The man was tan built like a tank with black hair that fell to his shoulders in spikes. The man's face was covered in piercings, while his store was a black sleeveless shirt and dark with steel toed boots. Slowly his eyes opened to reveal blood red .
"Place is a bore don't ya think ?"
Giving a mute nod in agreement he slipped into the empty seat next to the man. Giving the man a glance he notice him scanning the shelf like a hunter seeking prey. Doing his own scan he noticed a petite woman with blue hair waving from amisted the shelves. The man returned the wave with a stubbed gloved hand.
"Oi that your girl metal face ?"
"Somethin' like that , that yours cotton head ?"
Slowly he turned to respond finding the man's thumb pointing to Maka. Her back was to them as she searched through one of shelves. She looked cute today not unlike most days. Smiling at him she vanished back inside the maze of shelves. He couldn't fight the blush to crept to his cheeks.
"Gihihihi I get cha' now she don't know ya like 'er what a loser."
" It's not like she likes me back so why bother ?"
Without warning the man's stubbed fist hit his jaw. The blow sent him falling to the soft carpet on his hands and knees. With heavy steps the stubbed man approached. Kneeling to his new acquaintance's level the studded man glare at him. His voice was a growl as he pulled the cotton haired man to his feet.
"Cut the crap cotton head how ya gonna know unless you try?"
"Don't talk to me like know what it's like."
Glaring at his raven haired attacker he swung at him. The raven haired man didn't flinch as his fist connected with his lower jaw. Rolling his eyes the raven haired man turned toward the shelves.
"I talk like I know what's like cuz I do, it ain't easy having a crush a bookworm."
"Gajeel little help ?"
Gajeel zeroed in on the voice scanning for his bookworm. Her delicate form stumbled into his sight arms full of books. Without hesitation he rushed to her nabbing the stack. Grinning down at her he dropped his free arm over her shoulder. Turning toward the check he face became as red as his eyes. As they walked away Gajeel turned sending his new friend a thumbs up.
"So that's Gajeel certainly gives off that tough guy vibe."
"Looks can be deceiving Maka you know that."
He turned sending her a shark toothed smile. Letting out a giggle she looped her arm around his resting her head on his arm. Cradling her books in her opposite elbow she directed him to the counter. Stepping through the doors to the parking lot they were surprised to a pair waiting for them.
"Hey why don't you lunch with us , Gajeel will pay."
"Levy I never said anything about that !"
At the bottom of the stairs Levy stood waving a leather wallet hanging by a chain. Sending Levy a weak glare Gajeel snagged the wallet slipping it in his back pocket. Levy's response to his glare was to stand on her tiptoes and kiss his nose. Turning away from them Gajeel blushed mumbling a curse.
"What'd you think Soul should we ?"
"Couldn't hurt to get a free meal."
In an instant Gajeel's muttering ceased as he Glared at Soul.
"It ain't a free meal cotton head !"
