Chapter One: It All Started Here...
Fowl Manor, August 4th, 3:24 PM
Artemis Fowl II was not having a particularly good day. It was a sweltering summer day, with the temperature well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and Fowl Manor was currently undergoing an air conditioning repair - the A/C had suddenly broken down that morning and would take 5 more days to fix. It was surprisingly difficult to fix the air conditioning of a 200-acre estate on the outskirts of Dublin. But meanwhile, the heat was making it practically impossible to work on his latest project - the (A/N The name of the project and it's purpose has been removed from this site on request of one Artemis Fowl II).
It was currently mid-afternoon in Dublin when Artemis Fowl finally couldn't take the heat wave anymore and got up from his computer (where he had been sitting at for the past few hours desperately fanning himself with a paper fan that Artemis Fowl Senior had acquired from a former business partner in Uganda several years ago - it was awful and frustrating that a huge castle-turned-manor with a state-of-the-art defense system, blueprints for a hovercraft, and the latest technologies from developers all over the world did not even possess a back-up air conditioning system, or at least, a few electrical fans.) and called Butler into his study.
"Butler, pack our bags, and start the limousine. You and I are going to take a trip to the docks."
Camp Half-Blood, August 4th, 3:24 PM
"PERCY! HURRY UP!" Annabeth yelled to Percy from under Thalia's Tree, "WE'RE GOING TO BE LATE!"
"I'm coming, I'm coming," Percy said, grinning up at his girlfriend as he dragged his suitcase up the hill. Jason said something to Percy and the two burst into laughter as the Seven loaded their suitcases onto one of the camp cars parked next to the Big House. Annabeth turned away from Piper for a moment and surveyed the scene.
It was a scorching summer's afternoon, with Apollo's sun chariot still hovering in the middle of the sky, directly over camp. All the campers outside of their cabins were roasting in the heat and no one seemed to be training properly. The campers hiding in their cabins weren't faring too well either.
When the campers had refurbished the camp a few decades back, they had never gotten around to air-conditioning any building other than the Big House – something that the present generation of campers were paying for now.
It had been the heat wave that had taken over most of the summer in both New York and California that had led to the Seven booking a week long cruise from New York up to Anchorage, Alaska on a demigod-run cruise ship. Even though Alaska summers might not be freezing, it was at least way cooler up there than at the camps, which had everyone immediately on board the idea of spending a cool, relaxing week outside of camp, and without monster attacks.
Annabeth took a last look at camp before jumping into the van, looking forward to spending a week sailing the seas with Seaweed Brain.
