Who is really the hero? Song fic. Oneshot

Soda's day had been carefree, just like the day before. He wished his brothers could see the world like he did. Darry was cold and Pony was too naïve. That didn't mean Pony had it easy, it was actually just the opposite. He was always 'the doll's younger brother.'

It must have been cold there in my shadow,
to never have sunlight on your face.
You were content to let me shine, that's your way.
You always walked a step behind.

Yeah, he did have a name, but nobody knew it. He was just a kid, a runt. Pony got good grades, but no, nobody cared. They just wanted his phone number so they could call that good looking boy from the DX, even though they knew he was dating Sandy.

So I was the one with all the glory,
while you were the one with all the strain.
A beautiful face without a name for so long.
A beautiful smile to hide the pain.

He was on the Track team too, but so were the rich kids, who were on top. But those guys liked Soda too. Don't get me wrong, Ponyboy loved his brother, but sometimes it got too hard to handle. Pony got yelled by his oldest brother Darry. Soda had to listen to it.

Soda dropped out of school, to help take care of Ponyboy after their parents died in an accident. Then there was that week, the week Soda lost everything, his girlfriend and his brother. You see, Pony ran away when he got hit by Darry. Pony's best friend Johnny killed a guy, so they had to hide. Sandy had cheated on Soda and moved to Florida. He cried that whole week.

It might have appeared to go unnoticed,
but I've got it all here in my heart.
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it.
I would be nothing without you.

He ran to the hospital when he heard Pony was back. It was wonderful news.

The next night, Pony saw both his friends die after a rumble. It was very depressing. Pony almost got taken away from Soda and Darry. He didn't. He got to stay with his two brothers that he loved.

Now, before Soda goes to bed at night, he just looks at his brother and thinks about his day, his life, and his family. Pony was the bravest person Soda knew.
