They were announcing their engagement tonight. Haruno Sakura was marrying Uchiha Sasuke. Everyone was there, everyone was happy except for one person. Uchiha Itachi.
Yes, He was glad his brother finally popped the question to the only girl he has ever loved. She is smart, beautiful and loved his little brother as much as he did. Itachi first took notice of Sakura in the hospital.
When he woke up the first thing he saw was a flash of pink going out of his room. "Get used to her coming in and out of your room like that; you are to stay here for two weeks so you'll be seeing her a lot." Shizune spoke to him.
"Is she going to be my nurse?" he mumble. God he was tired.
Shizune looked at him like he had just grown another head and laughed lightly, "Boy, she was the one who saved your life" and that was the last thing he heard before he drifted back to sleep.
How it happened; He didn't know, but it sure started that day.
When he was released from the hospital, His mother insisted they invited her over for dinner to thank her for saving his life. After that night, Itachi knew he needed to know more about her.
When he needed a medic for the team, he requested for her. He found Sakura to be one of the very few people he could talk over lunch and not be uncomfortable about it. Then, one night, his team decided to celebrate a successful mission in the same place team 7 was having a little get together. He first saw his brother, beside him the Uzumaki boy, and then he saw her. They all started to drink, and things went down from there.
Itachi didn't know how it happened, but later that night, he ended up in Sakura's apartment, in her bed, with her.
He didn't remember how they ended up there, and neither did she, "it was a mistake," she had say, "it won't happen again." But it did happen. And he never said it, but he did not find their encounters a mistake.
One night, five weeks later into their little meetings in her apartment, she told him it had to stop. "This is going nowhere. We're going nowhere. I told you, this is a mistake."
"Very well." And he left. Just like that, it was over. On his way back home, Itachi wondered how the end of something that never really started pained him so bad.
Three months later, Uchiha Sasuke announced he was officially dating Haruno Sakura.
Two years and a half later here they are, in their engagement night.
"You should have told me sooner." Sakura spoke. There was an emotion in her words, regret maybe? He couldn't place it.
"Maybe I should. But now is too late, you're getting married to my brother." She was getting married to his brother. He loved her, and she was getting married. Funny, he thought, how things ended up.
"I am." She went silent for a moment, "I'm sorry…"
"Don't be. It's not your fault. I hope he makes you happy."
And He left. Just like that, it was over.
