AN: Haven't done anything new in a while for SPN...so here we go. In between season 5 and 6 and stems from something Jensen said about Dean readjusting to a 'normal' life, something about him and cereal...I don't remember but here we go hope you enjoy.

HYPOCRITICALLY LIVING AN APPLE PIE LIFE

Dean's fists curled tightly - exposing white knuckles and crescent shaped indents on the palm on his hand - around the handle of the shopping trolley. Instantly his hand travelled to his chest searching for the object that was once his greatest possession. Fingers grasped air and self-consciously he rubbed the back of his neck. He felt people watching him as they walked behind with grubby children attached to their coattails.

Do I take one box or two?

The wall in front of him seemed never ending. The array of colours and logos blinded his eyes and hurt his psyche. He hadn't even started shopping and already he was too eager to bolt.

"Daddy! I want this one!" A girl screamed to the left of him. Watching in horrid fascination he saw her cheeks turn bright red as she collapsed onto the cold lino floor beating her little fists in time with punctuated yells of "I want! I want! I want!" Her father crouched next to her shooting nervous glances at the amused shoppers. After what seemed like hours he threw his hands up, exhaustion written on his face, dropping the bubblegum pink box at his daughter's head and stormed off. The girl stopped crying, ecstatically picking up the cereal box and clutching it to her chest. Wiping her eyes a little bit she gave Dean a wide grin and ran after her father.

Does Ben like sugar in the morning?

He stepped towards the shelf slowly as if the boxes would topple over and trap him in a sugary prison. 'Fruit Frosties' were lined up in front of him box after box. He picked up a box reading the labels. Squinting his eyes to read the minuscule print he put the box down quickly.

"It's only sugar," the mother said next to him.

I wonder - do they like Lucky Charms?

He turned to his trolley that still sat emptily by his side and pushed the cart down the aisle. The wheel swerved slightly causing the cart to hobble to the left and he gritted his teeth in frustration.

"Watch it!" The old woman groused. Giving him a heated glare she hobbled off and Dean swallowed nervously. He felt ridiculous, so out of place, He felt his heart beating harder and his grip on the trolley became stronger. This wasn't right, he wasn't supposed to be normal, he had mocked Sam's apple pie life...thought it was ridiculous with the knowledge the younger man possessed. "Hypocrite," he whispered to himself. He had that knowledge...he was doing normal...he...

Lisa's said fat free...I think?

...missed Sam.

Running a hand through his dirty blonde hair he pushed away the shopping trolley in disgust.

It wasn't right.

It felt all wrong.

It was like he was in someone else's skin.

The cart rebounded off the checkout counter and people turned to look at him sharply. He flashed them an agitated glare, his green eyes dared them to make a sound.

Sam liked Lucky Charms.

Gruffly he grabbed a loaf of bread near the counter.

Sam's gone...

Dean had to readjust.

...and he's never coming back.
