There air was cold, but that was not new. It was always cold. That's how things were around here. Sometimes, the temperature would peak, but not by much. Today, the weather was normal, the average weather surrounding the town. Rain slowly fell from the sky and filled in potholes along the old, worn roads. By the time the town was dark and colder, the rain had stopped to only a soft, fine mist.

"Is she ready?" asked the father, standing at the bottom of the high staircase, his hand tight against the banister.

"In a minute!" replied the mother, fixing her daughter's sweater so it was snug.

The two walked down the stairs and the father commented on how beautiful his daughter looked in her new clothes. The petit family left their large, warm house and ventured into the cool weather that lay outside of its doors.

The wind nipped at their bodies as they walked from house to house. The little girl smiled joyfully as she walked between her parents on the sidewalk through the town. They passed other children with their parents and wished them a happy evening.

Finally, they made it to the last house.

The girl marched up the walkway, leaving her mum and dad on the sidewalk, waiting, and knocked on the awaiting door. Once the tall, old lady opened the door, the girl smiled and said, "Trick or treat!"

The lady chuckled and went back into the house, grabbing a bag of candy. Upon putting the treat into the girl's bag, the lady asked, "And what, dear, are you dressed up as?" The lady regarded the girl's lack of costume. She only wore a sweater, jeans and sneakers.

There was no room for silence. The girl knew the answer as though that's all she ever thought about.

"A vampire," replied Renesmee.
