My first Fullmetal Alchemist ficlet. Hee.

Golden Boy

Edward Elric had been the latest topic of conversation not only in Central, but at HQ and several of the smaller military outposts scattered around the continent as well. The prodigy had stirred trouble amidst the walls of the Amestrian military ever since his arrival several years ago. One could not wander the corridors of HQ or browse the aisles of the Central library without catching some gossip about the boy's recent escapades. If anyone dared to ask just who was this 'Fullmetal', it would be very clear that they'd been living under a rock for the last four years. The Fullmetal alchemist was, after all, the military's golden boy.

Yes, things had certainly changed since his arrival. Whether it was for the best or for the worst was still being debated. Some considered Fullmetal's presence to be a godsend. Even a certain Colonel couldn't deny to enjoying a quick row with the child, if not other things…
But that was strictly for the Colonel, the Fullmetal Alchemist, and other higher-ups to know.

Of course, there were those who considered Edward a nuisance. They said he knew too much, had seen things that only the more privileged personnel should know about. Many higher-ranking men, ones who sat behind large oak desks with their legs propped up in their leather chairs, had summoned the braided alchemist to their office as an attempt to finally silence the boy.
They all quickly learned that the Fullmetal alchemist's mouth could be used for a lot more things then talking.

He gave. They took. He received. Not once would Ed return from those 'meetings' empty-handed. No matter how much the greedy men would claim, Edward would always be properly rewarded.
All and all, it was equivalent exchange.

Edward had once said that he was ready to do anything in order to get himself and his little brother back to normal.
At the time, he hadn't realized that 'anything' encompassed so much.
